The entrance to a subway station in Berlin has been outfitted with a temporary slide, much to the delight and puzzlement of commuters. Man, I'd love to see this next to that horrid six-story monster at Lex and 53rd. (Or at DC's Dupont Circle.) But you know, America. Lawsuits. The Berlin installation is a promotion for Volkswagen.

Let's turn off the power to all down escalators and install slides! Think of the energy saving, the fun, the embarrassment it would cause!

Think of the sprains, the concussions!

 

I wouldn't worry about people hurting themselves on the slides. But I'd worry about some of the tonnage I've seen on those escalators coming down on top of *me* at the bottom!
