I hope you take the time to watch this film. It's now on OnDemand (cable) and apparently is playing around the country. It documents the LDS (Mormon) Church's massive involvement in passing Prop 8 in California.

As a former Mormon, I can tell you, it's very accurate about the church's campaign tactics and, more importantly, its years of hate-filled rhetoric. The gay teen suicides and electroshock treatment at BYU (Brigham Young University) are accurate. I left the church my senior year at Berkeley after a televised General Conference where the prophet, seer and revelator for the LDS Church basically told the membership it would be better to see your children dead that living a gay lifestyle. The same year was the first Pride parade in San Francisco.

For Mormons, being told by the LDS leadership to do something is not a request. Mormons face disfellowship or excommunication if they don't comply. For Mormons, a choice between family or church (which is a large family) is difficult.

Did the demonstations in front of temples have an effect? Yes! The only thing Mormons hate more than gays is bad publicity. Recently the Mormon prophet stated the church does not support discrimination against gays, and actually came out in favor of legislation in SLC that would have given job protection.

See it!

Very revealing the extent to which the mormon membership was strong armed into giving money and how systematically the effort was overlorded by the leadership of the mormon church. Jesus Christ - save me from your followers.

I watch Big Love and from there is all I know of Mormons. The characters and mentalities make it essentially a horror show. In the only gay element of the series one relationship of closeted gay men ended in suicide of one. When I watch I think that I see fiction. Is it not so?

certainly don't base your impression of the LDS Church on a fictional TV show about an extremely fringe (and outlawed since 1890) element of the church....this show was created, anyway, to appeal to prurient interests (but it is a well-made production).....there are polygamous families in the west, but very few and they are not part of the mainstream......

The polygamy is indifferent. The horror comes from the endless immoral and criminal actions of most of the characters in the name of a religion that in the script exists to promote more brutal actions and more cynicism and less piety only. Has not the LDS church condemned the series?
