Imagine my shock and surprise when I learned "The Book of Mormon" musical is set to open on Broadway in March 2011. I'm going to have to save my pennies so I can see it.

Trey Parker and Matt Stone (creators of "South Park) and Robert Lopez (one of the creators of the Tony-winning "Avenue Q") wrote the play, music, and lyrics. It will be directed by Parker and Jason Moore, who directed "Avenue Q." Producers are Scott Rudin and Anne Garefino.

I am absolutely wet with anticipation. Wonder if the touring company will eventually make it to Salt Lake City??

If the play is anything like the South Park episode, Mormonisn Explained, it will probably be a while. ;)

Thanks for posting the link. I had never seen that video before.

It's a surprisingly accurate portrayal of their beliefs. There are a couple minor points on the actual translation that don't jive with the currently told story. But, it's a good "Reader's Digest" condensed version on the roots of Mormonism.

However, I'm still having a difficult time figuring out how they could make this into a Broadway play that would have wide appeal. And, I hope the music has more appeal than the standard Mormon Tabernacle Choir concert.
