Alternative to AOL Chat Rooms

I've often seen posters here discuss AOL chat rooms, but I found an alternative last night that I haven't seen mentioned: Yahoo Chat.

 

I went to chat.yahoo.com, and after responding yes to the question of installing the chat software, I found an adult room for gay men in the Washington DC area, and within ten minutes, I spotted handles for three escorts, at least one of whom was reviewed on the M4M board.

 

All three escorts had nude photos in their profiles.

 

I suspect your results will not be as good if you live outside a major metroplitan area.

 

Has anyone else had a good or bad experience with Yahoo chat?

Yes I have used yahoo chat to locate escorts as well. I'm pleased to note that it has always worked for me It seems to be a realistic alternative to AOL Chat Rooms.

Could you give me some help please? How did you find a room specifically for gays in DC? I can only seem to find rooms called "just the boy" and are not geographically specific.

After digging around a bit, I found the Yahoo chat area. Although I have used their IM for ages, I'd never used Yahoo Chat before. For Yahoo, it is uncharacteristically disorganized. There are two separate gay chat areas. Each of these areas has several unlabled rooms in them. Each seems to just be a free-for-all of people popping in and out. In the areas I poked around, I couldn't find any sort of geographical organization. No indication at all of any escorts. Also, although I looked, I couldn't find any sort of help with which room is for what?

 

Can you provide a few more specifics of which room(s) you visited and how you figured out where to go?

OK, shown below are the steps I followed to get to the M4M room for DC on Yahoo! Chat.

 

Make sure you wait for each window to refresh completely before continuing to the next step. I've found that the system occasionally gets hung up if you rush the process.

 

1. Go to chat.yahoo.com

 

2. Pick the profile that you want to use from the dropdown list in the upper left corner. You can add a new profile by clicking on the adjacent "add / change profile" link.

 

3. Click the "Enter Chat Room" Link under the Start Chatting heading.

 

4. Wait for the "Loading Yahoo! Chat" progress bar to indicate you are connected. then click the Continue button.

 

5. Click Yes when prompted to download the Voice Chat download. You don't have to use the voice chat, but if you don't clik Yes here, the system will prompt you every time you revisit Yahoo! chat.

 

6. After Voice Chat is downloaded, click the Start Chat Now button.

 

7. Wait for the chat page to load, then click the Change Room button and wait for the Changes Room Window to display. The remaining steps are performed in the this window.

 

8. Click "Romance" in the Chat Category list.

9. Click "Adult" in the Sub-Categories list.

10. Click "here" in the Chat Agreement statement.

11. Click "Gay Male" in the Sub-Categories list.

12. Click "User Rooms' in the Chat Rooms area on the right.

13. Click on your desired link from the list. In my case, I click on the DC,MARYLAND,VA:1 link.

 

You can now return to the main chat window and start chatting.
