I am looking for a eReader.

I have researched the Kindle and Nook and am leaning toward the Nook. Any of you guys have experience with either that you might want to share?

I own and use two Kindles, and also use the Kindle reader app on my PC and iPhone. Does that count?

Biggest complaint: somebody kick publishers in the ass and get them on the ebook bandwagon!

sony has a product called the sony reader

I have used it and given one as a gift to a friend. (which means I had to show how to use it)

it is open source you can download books from everywhere. its touch screen is very cool and it have a 3g and wireless version to.

the case it comes in feels like holding and using a book with a nice built in reading light and thinner.

there are over a million free and awesome downloads on Google and its free the costs of purchasing books open source is about the same.

there are a couple versions of the sony reader check it out too.

heres some info you might want to read.

Thanks for the topic. I am on the verge of buying the kindle myself, but was holding out to review the 3G iPad. Would appreciate any feedback from those much more tech savvy than I. I am tired of lugging books and magazines on a plan, so would really like to slim down. Thanks for the insights!

Travel is where any eReader shines, EXCEPT the Kindle! It isn't backlit so reading on a night flight is every bit as difficult as reading a paper book. (Those over-seat lights NEVER point the right direction! And the screen is subject to glare.)

But Kindle coupled with the Kindle Reader app for iPhone (presumably soon to come to iPad) solves that. Since it's backlit, you don't need the over-seat light. You can transfer any title between the two devices, and if you've been reading on one and then open the same title on the other, it syncs to the page where you left off.

I thought it was a marketing gimmick until I tried it and now I go back and forth all the time. (And the iPhone plays music and movies too. Perfect travel gadget.)

If I didn't already have the iPhone AND two Kindles, I'd be considering iPad too.

deej why two? Is it due to storage issues or just for your convenience?

Nothing to do with storage!

My only gripe with the original Kindle (1.0) was the small screen size. It often feels a little like you're turning the page every paragraph. So I ordered the DX the day it was announced.

Today, the DX basically lives on my nightstand. It's what I read when I'm in bed before going to sleep. The original Kindle wanders around with me. When I forget it, the phone fills in the gap.

I wonder if iPad's carry-around quotient is as limited as I found with the Kindle DX. They're about the same size/weight.

Though my original intention was to purchase a solid e-book reader, im starting to wonder if maybe buying a iPad might not be the best choice over all.

Though as you mentioned I too tend to read in bed at night so the iPad might be overkill for my needs.
