I'm flying for business to Jacksonville, FL first week of August. Could someone tell me what to do for fun there? -- local bars, escorts, baths bookstores, etc. I browsed some web sites but would prefer your individual input.

Get a hold of my friends Adrian and Blake two hot guys who are a couple for a nice threesome bet they will come to Jacksonville for you. They live in Orlando which isn't really that far away. I was stationed in Jacksonville while in the Navy. I am sure there is something there but it was "Don't Ask Don't Tell in those days and no one talked or did much at least in Public.

I grew up in Jacksonville, and visit often, so I can shed some light on it for you.

First off, I love JAX. Theres nothing like sitting on the St Johns river at 10PM watching the skyline.

OK, so here goes:

There are 2 gay neighborhoods. San Marco is more upscale homes, and Riverside, which is my favorite. Riverside is older apartments, its still in mid gentrification, and can be a little scary, but not so much that you really need to worry.

Clubs: there are 2 big ones: 1)The Metro, which is great on Saturday night. The music is House, techno, the usual.

2) 3rd Demension or "3D" is good on Wednesday and Friday. The crowd is more ethinic, and the music is funkier. Both of these clubs are in Riverside, about a 15 minute drive apart.

Bars: Dont know about the current bars, they come and go. Park place in Riverside is always good.

Shopping: 5 Points is the cool hip neighborhood right now. Its in Riverside as well.

Beaches: Gay beach is on A1A between JAX and St. Augustine in an area called Guano Lake State Park. The gay area is in the area of the beach by the boat ramp.

Bath Houses and gyms: The big bathhouse is CLUB JAX or maybe CLUB JACKSONVILLE in San Marco.

The best gym for cruising is The YMCA in Riverside. They have a day rate, at the steam rooms get going around 5PM.

Youll need a very detailed map to find your way around, as JAX is very very large and confusing. As I dont know exact addresses, a Damron guide might help as well, or at least try http://www.anywho.com to get the addresses of these places before you go. Most of hte stuff youll be doing is not more than a 20 minute drive from the downtown area. Make sure you also check out the Riverwalk and Jax Landing.

Hope this helps,

Jake
