But since some comments about the book are being allowed, I remember being told that the original "Wonderful Wizard of Oz" was a satire about the movers and shakers of the day - that, for example the cowardly lion was supposed to represent Andrew Carnegie ... anybody know anything about that?

 

Apparently Baum considered it a "modernized fairy tale" and although it is filled as you were told with political imagery, Carnegie is not among them:

Whether or not AC, a Yankee player, or any other celebrity or person in the news is gay, bi or hetro does not make any difference to me. I would be disgusted if a companion of mine started telling me who had hired him, famous or not. That is very unprofessional and I would never hire that person again. While it may be titilating to gossip about such things, it really serves no purpose. Everyone is entitled to privacy in their life, even public persons and unless their sexuality was directly related to the work they do, which in 99.9 % of the cases it is not, then it is no one else's business. I highly respect individuals who idenify their sexual preferences, what ever their status in life, as it is wonderful for young people to have role models, regardless of their sexual desires. I wish more hetrosexual men would be good role models too. Just my opinion, and I am not critical of anyone who has posted, just had to add my two cents to the dialog.
