May This Story (and Farrah) Rest in Peace

I liked Farrah a great deal and even had her sexy poster on my bedroom wall when I was a young teen. But, come on, does this story merit the extensive public and media attention it's garnered this week?

The U.S. is engaged in two major wars; the world economy is mired in deep recession; 47 million Americans have no health insurance; 15 million Americans are unemployed; and two catastrophic earthquakes have recently killed thousands in Haiti and Chile. Surely we can accept the Academy's apology regarding Farrah's omission from the Oscar montage, put this matter in proper perspective, and let Farrah (and this trivial story) rest in peace.

You are definitely correct that compared to the various big issues you listed the whole thing with the Academy snub of Farrah seems trivial. It is likely that it is precisely because of all the serious and ongoing issues that people are easily distracted to something else like this. This story will fade relatively quickly but the other huge problems will continue, unfortunately, for some time so it seems to me that there is some kind of temporary psychological break from all the other more serious problems. Also, in some ways, it is human nature to focus on a story that has a face and name on it, especially a celebrity, compared to the others that may seem somewhat remote and faceless.

It does seem trite in comparison.

The Usual "Movie Marketing" Oscar Show!

This whole Show was very Messy from beginning to end!

The minute I read about the alleged "10 Best Movie Nominations" in contention, which ridiculously were only to make the General Public THINK that many GREAT Movies were made, I decieded to Rent a Video! ;) Thank God for Great INDIE Movies! :p

Sadly some of those very "Talented People" from the Past who did "Pass On" .. were ignored!

Let's see IF "The Lost Boy" Corey Haim is mentioned next year? Betcha he is! ;)

Good point, JGOO. Perhaps this story does serve as a healthy, harmless diversion from bigger problems we are facing. I hadn't really thought of it in that context. Thanks for this insight.
