It was a cool choice and a touch of class to have Barbra Streisand present the Best Director Award to Kathryn Bigelow. As the winner exited the stage with Babs, the orchestra played Helen Reddy's "I Am Woman." Loved it.

YES!!

I also think Barbra should have won Best Director for "Yentl" years ago. But the boys club prevailed then.

Hey EXPAT and Jack: I totally agree with both of you. Streisand and Bigelow--that was my favorite moment of the Oscars last night. And yes, Barbra should have won for Yentl, too. Papa, Can You Hear Me!

I absolutely disagree with the notion that Barbara Streisand should have won for best director. The director of "Terms Of Endearment", James L Brooks quite rightly deserved to win for best director as he presided over a very powerful cast and directed one of best tear-jerker movies from the 1980's. The academy were absolutely right in awarding James Brooks for a fantastic piece of work that has now become timeless.
