The Duchess of Windsor may have gotten whatever she wanted from the rich hangers-on who surrounded the Duchess and her husband. But, the things she wanted the most (HRH designation, a cordial relationship with the Quenn Mother and her family, a home in the U.K.) never happened.

It is true that Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles were kind to her after the Duke of Windsor became fatally ill. And Elizabeth did pay her bill after she ran though all her money. By then, it was too late to matter much.

For his sake, I would not wish any part of the Duchess's life on your friend, foxy.

All of the Duchess's jewels were auctioned off and went to AIDS research. Millions! I guess she accomplished something worthwhile.

That is true. But the Duchess of Windsor suffered from dementia for years before dying in 1986 at age 89. Her life was completely taken over by her lawyer, a woman named Blum. None of her friends ever saw the Duchess, or talked to her. Even her sister-in-law, the Queen Mother, was turned away when she tried to see Windsor.

Most people believe that the decision to leave her estate to the Pasteur Institute was Blum's or possibly Blum's male assistant's (also a lawyer), not the Duchess'. Blum was still alive when the Duchess died, but only the male assistant attended the funeral in the U.K. All of the major figures in the Royal Family, including Elizabeth, were also present.

However it happened, the Institute receives many millions from the auction of her jewelry.

I know about Blum and Duchess's final years after reading a fascinating book by Caroline Blackwood on the relationship between the two women. Otherwise, I have little interest in the Duke and Duchess of Windsor.

She changed the course of history for the British royal family... all because she gave the best blowjobs.... at least... so they say. Got to give her credit for that.

Some of the current Royal family is not much better. According to the book I mentioned, the Duke's funeral was a nightmare. The Duchess was already into the early stages of dementia, and for the first time had to cope with Elizabeth and Philip et al. I do not remember if she had even met them when the Duke was alive.

At lunch before the funeral, Philip in a jolly manner, turned to the deeply grieving & disoriented Duchess and said, "So what are you going to do with the rest of your life?"

LOL! Well, as my grandmother would have said, "Bless their hearts, I'm sure they're doing the best they can."
