Actually, theres an additional TOS item under ACTIONS OF MODERATORS:

 

"7. Non-English posts will be removed. Please post in English only."

 

It doesn't seem to be applied in all instances.

Thankfully not...

 

When works of art, poetry, verse, and the like are quoted as in this particular case (and a translation is provided) so far the "removal clause" has not applied... and for good reason.

 

As an example, I posted a portion of Felice Romani's libretto for the opera Il turco in Italia in the recent thread about Italy... I provided my own translation in an attempt to best convey the sentiments expressed in those words… and did so because the several translations that I had at my disposal just didn’t quite get things right in my estimation. However, somehow the original still expressed the feelings so much better... and in a more musical, delightful and I dare say more magical way… at least to those who know the language. Depriving the message center of such delights would indeed be quite a disservice.

 

Bottom line: posting in a foreign language in any general discussion would be like having someone talking in a foreign language in front of you for the express purpose of deliberately trying to hide something from you and keep you out of the loop. That would be most unfair and it is to that type of a posting that the moderators should consider for removal. That is not certainly the case in this thread. In fact in this situation the presence of the foreign language only enhances and adds to the quality and value of the dialogue.
