Just wanted to get some advice. I am going to be in San Francisco on vacation for New Year's Eve and wanted to get some suggestions. Any recommendations where to go to eat? Like Italian, or steak places but if there is some other place/food you recommend, will certainly consider it. How about after dinner? Thanks.

There is a little hole-in-the-wall Italian place in the Castro called Capri Ristorante Pizza that I really like. Here's the URL:

It isn't hard to find great food by just wandering around and seeing what looks interesting.

One of my biggest regrets about leaving SF was not being able to frequent Ella's (corner of Presideo and California) anymore. It's gay owned with large portions of great home-cooked causal style food. It's the sort of place where everything except the ketchup and jam is made right there in front of your eyes. Weekend brunch gets slammed, so plan accordingly. They've served dinner off and on and when they do life is good. I'm told it's been sold since I left but still largely the same; I haven't been back to verify.

you will not have any trouble finding good food places in SF. All these posts about food make me hungry... Yum...
