Hi guys!

I was just curious if any of you have had a long term relationship with a straight woman and if so, do you find this relationship to be productive? I have had a friend for years who is gay, and have found him to be one of the closest things to my heart. No expectations or hidden sexual agendas. We laugh and talk and bitch on a daily basis! btw....hi all!

I have good relationships with several straight women, including my boss at the children's shows. My other main straight female friend used to work there, too, but since she is now working with a couple of other theater companies, we hardly ever get to see each other any more, but love long conversations when we can. (I'm afraid that is a common story between me and a lot of my friends. I'm not very good at keeping touch with people and you other posters here hear from me a lot more frequently than almost anyone else except my lover.)

In a related story - One of my other best female friends doesn't qualify for this thread because she is a lesbian. I was just chewed out by her last week (gently) for not calling her often enough - this from a lady who freely admits that she never calls anyone else, they all need to call her. ;-)

I also have one special relationship with a straight woman-imagine a black Bette Midler with a tongue that could strip varnish and a singing voice honed over 25 years of gospel/church singing,we met in 1986 me a green straight-out-of-the-academy rookie she a 14 year veteran we were paired together and within a month i felt like i had known her all my life. She became someone i could tell ANYTHING and it wouldn't be around the precinct in 30 seconds in fact her claim to fame is that she engineered the BF and i getting together-she called it her leaving present to me when she retired. She is probably most closest friend male/female straight or gay and i am honored to know her.

Kathryn,

you cannot be a gay man and not have a meaningful, longlasting relationship with a woman. I was always very good friends with women. If I had dime for every time some guy has asked me if I am having sex with a woman that I am very good friends I would have enough money to pay Talvin DeMachio the 10,000.00 he asks for to bottom about 5 times over.

I think that on some level a woman does know that a man is gay, even the ones that are incredibly butch and (for lack of a better term and one that I hate) "straight acting". To me, the big giveaway to a woman should be when she tells a man about her period and he is sympathetic. A straight man would either walk away or quickly change the subject.

I love my best friend so much I married her. Some people think it's weird, but it works for us.

A gay (or straight man) who is sympathetic to menstration is definately a keeper! LOL!

I wonder if the relationships work between gay men and straight woman because there isnt any sexual pressure between them? Perhaps being who you are and being accepted for who you are is an added bonus...

your lesbian friend is married to a gay man? Is this a show for society? If there relationship is based on what society perceives as acceptable, I must wonder about that relationship!

I do think the other reason why gay men and straight women get along so well is because only a gay man can understand what true pigs men (whether they are gay or straight) can be and can share and empathize with a woman about that.

To me, marriage is about a lifelong partnership, not about finding a permanent sex partner. I love my wife, cherish our relationship and partnership. I don't happen to want to stick my dick in her (which suits her just fine, thanks.)

This isn't about show, its about commitment to a relationship.

If it's not about sex, what, exactly IS it about? "Relationship" and "partnership" are awfully vague.

More, the question in my mind is, does your "lifelong partner" know you're gay?

You bring out the sociologist in me....

Hmmmmmmm, intamacy is important in any relationship.....i think that sex is a part of intamacy. What better to way to know somebody than to know them completely?

I must agree with you here! Does your wife know that you are gay?

>Sex certainly is not everything, but it is significant.

Yes, of course she knows.

I am always boggled by people whose idea of a relationship is genital. It is about love. Friendship. Sharing life's joys and sorrows.

If you couldn't sleep with your SO, would that make them no longer your SO? What happens when your SO bores you sexually? Is sex the foundation of a relationship? It sure isn't for me. Sex is nice, but it isn't _that_ important.

I have respect for your relationship, and agree that there is more to any relationship than being physical...i applaud you and your wife! life and let live and be content within yourself!

Didn't mean to be ignoring you, Kathryn. Just dang busy. And now Charon has said everything that I might have said, only better.

I know that you would not ignore me Bilbo! I will be on vacation in the Carolina's for the next 6 weeks, but will talk to you all when I return. It is nice to see you all online....Have a wonderful day!

I am gay, and I had a great long term relationship with a woman, for 7 years. Actually, she was my wife. We had a great relationship while it lasted. We laughed and cried and even fucked. In fact, we fucked a lot. If you let it, I guess sex eventually ruins everything!
