Billy Bell Dance Solo Brings Judge To Tears

Billy Bell made it to the top 20 in the Fox show, "So You Think You Can Dance." He had to drop out of the competition due to a temporary illness. He is beyond awesome!! Billy probably would have won the competition. The entire episode in which he appeared has been pulled from Youtube by Dick Clark Productions. However, his solo audition from the Vegas competitions has fortunately remained on the Net.

 

The publicity Billy Bell has received has probably gotten him as much fame as he'd get from winning the SYTYCD competition.

Uhh--well let me preface this by saying I don't know anything about dancing. But to tell ya the truth, while I can obviously appreciate the skill in this video. It didn't seem that great to me because it looks choppy and not fluid--maybe it's the way it was videoed? However I did find this clip on You Tube, which impressed me more--it looks much more fluid

This is a good video of Billy Bell, which pre-dates the competition for SYTYCD, and wasn't part of a competition. The description is to the right side of the video on Youtube.

 

I still think the one he did for the Vegas competition is much more moving. I don't think his dancing was choppy or non-fluid at all. It's the less than stellar video production that may be somewhat choppy. I couldn't find a better one.

 

All I can say is the whole country has been blown away by the solo audition for Vegas. But you're certainly entitled to your opinion.

I don't get it. I do something similar to this in my bathroom every morning and I'm not remotely a dancer.

I'm an expert in dance ("expertise" gained by watching almost all the seasons of both "So You Think You Can Dance" and "Dancing With The Stars"), so much so that I keep wondering when I get invited on SYTYCD as a guest judge. But moving on ... I thought it was a good solo, but not THAT good. Adam Shankman went through a devastating breakup last season, and I'm wondering if some of the rawness of that wasn't factoring into his emotional breakdown. As for the other judges, how one views a performance can be influenced by a lot of factors, including the sobbing mess seated next to you. Is Billy good? Yup, very. Is he the best I've ever seen on the show? Hmmm, don't think so. I don't even think he's the best this season (my vote goes to Jakob). That said, I really hope Billy comes back for Season 7 because his illness/departure was a real loss.

Thanks very much for your input. It's good to get the perspective of someone who knows about dance and has seen a lot of contestants on both shows. I always value balanced opinions. I also hope he comes back next season. Nigel announced last night on SYTYCD that they have approval to let Billy Bell start with the top 100 on the next round.

 

My favorite performance last night was the dance in which Legacy represented fear. I thought that it was very well choreographed, and beautifully executed by both Legacy and his partner. It was also an unusual dance above the norm.
