Whether it's Carnival in Sydney, or in Rio, New Orleans, Cologne, etc., you and the BF will have to reach an understanding that during Carnival anything goes, including going off on your own for wild adventures, or having one or more new friends in for some serious partying. That's literally the whole point of Carnival: it's a brief window of opportunity when people can throw off all their everyday restrictions, then go back to normal life when Carnival ends. At least until the next Carnival!

One of my favorite stories is from the friend who first introduced me to Brazil-madness. He was in Rio for Carnival and met some hunk (married) who was staying in the same hotel. They ended up carrying on like God-a-mighty all during Carnival. Comes Ash Wednesday, my friend gets in the hotel elevator and finds his Carnival fling. Being alone in the elevator, my friend plants a big kiss on the guy, who leaps back and says, with finality, "But, Carnival is over!"

Moral if this story, if you go during Carnival, be prepared to let down your hair and ask no questions while it's going on. You'll have all of the rest of the year to go back to normal. :-)
