Recently the California governor appointed a known anti-gay lawyer to be an associate justice on the California Court of Appeal. Last week's San Francisco's gay newspaper, the Bay Area Reporter, had an article saying that Schwarzenegger has only appointed one openly gay judge, (to the SF Superior Court) and FOUR closeted judges. This astounds me, that in this day and age, the governor would be so reluctant to appoint openly gay judges, yet quite willing to appoint closet cases. Just another California oddity, I suppose. Maybe Arnold likes closet cases.

Not to doubt the veracity of your statement, but who decides a judge is a "closet case"?

I didn't know Chuck Poochigian had such a strong record against gay issues. Maybe that was noted only in the gay press. He was given a "not qualified" rating, but was easily confirmed by the Commission on Judicial Appointments.

His wife is now a county supervisor.

In many professions, there are cliques and gossip circles, and that's probably where the info came about about the closet cases. It was my experience that closet cases confided in me, knowing that I was openly gay. When a lawyer gets to the point where he is going to be appointed a judge, not much is unknown about him at that point. There are probably people opposing him who have learned all they could. But take it with a grain of salt, if you wish.
