I went to see Carrie Fisher's one woman show "Wishful Drinking" the other night on Broadway.

Carrie Fisher has always been one of my favorite personalities. I think she has a sharp, acerbic point of view and can be downright hysterically funny at times. She did not disappoint in this show. I also had no idea how gay-friendly Carrie is and her retelling of the death of her friend, in her bed, next to her, one night after a party, is not only very funny buy very moving. Carrie went on to marry another gay man and fathered his child. Her recollections of her Mother, Debbie Reynolds, and the relationship of her father Eddie, Liz and everyone else is unbelievable brilliant!

You know it's going to be a fun show when even before she hits the stage the announcement "Ladies and gentlemen, the role of Carrie Fisher will NOT be played by Meryl Streep tonight" comes over the speakers!

Alas, Carrie never touches on the persistent rumor that she and Penny Marshall had a relationship.

Fun stuff! Highly recommended!

I love Carrie Fisher

But I have never seen her in a major role after Star Wars... I think that is a problem for playing such a strong and successful role. People can't get over the fact that she was a princess in a galaxy far and far away.... At least I couldn't...However, Harrison Ford was able to market himself with similar a role as Indiana Jones... I love Indiana Jones but didn't like the last one. He was so cute in the Lost Ark... He was like my professor in college that I used to day dream in the class... His voice was so soft and whatever he said was like a soft song to me... He knew when I was sad and asked me why I was so sad during the class... so nice... I miss him...

When I hear her giving interviews on the radio--her vocal quality--well I don't know--but she still sounds to me as if she is slurring her words--just a bit. I mean she sounds totally lucid--just her vocal quality. It reminds me of a special I saw years ago back in the 1970's when I was probably in high school. It was about the dangers of marijuana use. There was a 12 year who had used marijuana regularly since he was around 9--and now had been off it for a year. When he spoke, he still sounded totally stoned--again vocal quality--not that what he was saying didn't make sense.

Yes, Carrie has probably done a lot of damage to her throat and vocal cords due to smoking and drug use.

I think carrie gave up her full time acting career years ago and has primarily focused on her writing and she enjoys a highly successful career in Hollywood as a "script-doctor." While you'll never see her name in the credits, she makes a fortune fine-tuning many major Hollywood film scripts.

Also, she and the original Star Wars cast were all given a small percentage of the gross of the movie and that turned her and her castmates in millionaires. I would not be surprised if they get a piece of all the merchandizing, too.

And if you can't make it to Broadway, her book of the same title is a pretty fun read. I've seen her on the talk shows promoting the book, and once you've got that voice in your head the book "sounds" just like her.
