Users of McAffee's virus protection products can buy their new product, "SpamKiller", for $29.95. It's worth every cent.

It works with any POP3 or MAPI e-mail account (sorry AOL and hotmail users, that ain't you!). It integrates with Outlook or Outlook Express (or whatever you're using). It will import your contacts or address book as "friends" so they come through OK.

It ships with an impressive set of filters for "known" spammer domains and techniques and quarrantines spam for 30 days (so you can retrieve it if it screws up, and you can configure the number of days) before permanently deleting it. Most useful, though, is that it alerts you when there's non-spam e-mail in your inbox so you can go get it.

It also successfully reaches out on the internet and updates itself regularly, as the spammers change strategies.

To date, it has "killed" one message I wish it hadn't. That message was an auto-response that had no date. Ordinarily, I WOULD want undated e-mails to be killed. (And I've complained to the sender about the undated e-mail because, frankly, that's a bug in their auto-responder.)

I've gone from 40 spams/hour to a relatively quiet and uneventful existence where I only find things in my inbox that I actually want to read.

This product was due.
