Some in the general public think that private flying is for the idle rich or fat cats in business. It is in fact a serious business tool but that is a discussion for another time.

 

Here is a link that shows how private pilots can provide help for those pets most of us love. Before you say, oh, well, those are rich guys just out having a good time, let me assure you that many of these guys are just average guys making a decent living who think flying is a wonderful avocation. In order to be safe, they must fly and fly often enough to maintain proficiency. There is a joke among aviators that says we are going for a $100 hamburger which means we are flying today for proficiency and the easiest way to do that is to go to some airport not previously flown to and eat lunch or a meal. Regardless, the point is the flight is to maintain proficiency.
