That's television btw,ok you wake up in the morning or whenever and you find you are a scheduler for a major network NBC,CBS etc and you think ok i've had it with Showtime etc and i want to put a gay orientated drama/sitcom on in a prime slot but what could it be.

Good Idea i'll ask some gay people what they think..should it be Queer as Folkish or Wi*l and G**ce (ewww) or something new ,a show that doesnt show all gay men and women if you so be it as raving nymphos although lots of sex and flesh would be good for ratings and get great demographics.

So come on folks what would you do theres gotta be some aspiring Darren Starr's or John Wells out there show me we can think up something better than W&G (PLEASE).Me i'd go down the animation route a la The Simpsons or King of the Hill lotsa humor and sex but with animation you can do so much more han live action generic sitcom/drama.

We'll forget the obscenity/pissing off the moral majority for the time being :7 let your imagination RUN RIOT.

I'd like to see a Western, like the cowboy shows of the 60's. All day out riding the range, fighting the bad guys, going after rustlers. Then, at the end of the day, they all wind up back in the bunkhouse and do just what you'd want a bunch of cowboys to do in a bunkhouse. And I think the horse should be named "Bruce".

One of my friends is working on a number of screen plays for scripts about gay mid-life, not campy, but could be funny; I'd like to see shows with scripts that talk about a bit more realististic gay life that QAF or W&G.

I'm not sure if gay boomers really want to see TV about their lives, tho; won't they be just as happy with 20-something gay tits and ass?

So maybe GAY TV is QAF 24/7, with a home shopping segment of A&F thrown in for good measure.

You've probably read the press release that Viacom and Showtime are considering a "gay cable network" for US viewers, similar to what already exists in Canada.

And Showtime starts an experiment next week on Wednesday nights, showing a "block" of gay programming on its "Showtime Too" channel (usually available only on satellite or digital systems). Sounds like a good idea, but the preliminary plans show just one old, tired gay-themed theatrical film (which you can likely find elsewhere on cable any week, or buy in the $6.99 "bargain bin" at the local video store), followed by an episode of "Queer Duck" and the latest "Queer As Folks" repeat. Not much attraction there, in my opinion, and I'm sure they'll use its poor performance to justify dragging their feet on the full time channel.

I'd like to see something other than recent cable reruns, maybe some original programming ... sitcom, talk/interview show, maybe even a "Queer Jeopardy" quiz show ("And the answer is: The first openly gay or lesbian title character on a prime time series!" That's an easy one, but feel free to buzz in ... :) And, if they have to run older stuff, at least run some less-seen stuff that would arouse curiousity, such as earlier gay-themed films (like "The Ritz" or "Boys In The Band" or "Making Love.")

You make some interesting points - but.......

I have recently viewed "Boys in the Band" (I was barely out of diapers when it was made) and felt as if I was in some kind of time warp. Words fail to describe how dated it is now. I would think the only value that would come from that type of film is to show how far we have progressed - and I would hate the straight community to mistakenly think we are still there.

Trust me - time has not been kind to this type of film. The best feature of the flic was the "Anything Goes" soundtrack.

There are several Gay start up networks at the moment. Someone woke up and realized that we have a lot of disposable income.

Next year you'll have several choices via your cable provider.
