Sexy New York Yankee shortstop Derek Jeter tonight tied Yankee great and Hall of Famer Lou Gehrig for the most hits ever by a Yankee player at 2721. Play was stopped as the audience, the Yankee players, and the opposing Tampa Bay Rays all joined in a standing ovation for Jeter.

For a baseball fan like me, it was a great moment to witness.

I was watching too. Loved the way he used a surprise bunt to get a hit. Jeter is one classy ball player.

I not only believe Derek Jeter to be a superior baseball player but also a superior person.

I grew up listening to Ernie Harwell broadcast Detroit Tiger games. His radio descriptions made me feel that we were watching the games together. Now, at 91, he has inoperable cancer, and was honored tonight at the Tigers' ballpark.
