not sure if this belongs in the "daddy" forum or not, but...

what causes the flames to shoot through the icon on a thread? is it a certain number of views? posts? is it a setting a moderator or admin turns on?

i've always wondered.

Probably a better question for the Daddy forum, but we can answer it here where more folks will see the answer.

The flaming icon shows "posts over time".

A thread that gets a huge amount of posts over a short period of time will automatically get the flaming icon. (It denotes a "hot" topic.)

A thread that gets the same number of posts spread out across several weeks won't get the same icon. (It's not such a "hot" topic.)

It's not anything anyone sets. It's built into the board software, and it's based on the number of posts within a time period.

Does this help?

Just a point of clarification. You can adjust the setting if you have admin access. You can also change the entire look of the Message Center Icons and all in the admin area of DC Forums.

Can I request hard dicks or melon-shaped buns instead of flames?

nice!

that's PERFECT! instead of the fire-flame, why not have richard simmons (the flamer) jump up when a thread reaches that level?

RE: nice!

We could have Rock Hudson for the slow flame, Liberace for the medium flame, and Richard Simmons for full flame.

(Sadly, the software doesn't support those levels.)

Or we could leave it the way it is, which is probably what will make Daddy least grumpy. We don't like him when he's grumpy. ;-)

why on earth would that make him grumpy?

i've never seen grown men cower so much. i say we all chip in for some zoloft for him & ride the wave of happiness.
