Just heard on the news that Eunice Schriver died this morning. What a remarkable woman. I have often heard her daughter Maria talk about her influence on her family - but think of her influence on society, being a founder of the special olympics and so much more.

Rip

I pray that she rest in peace. She did a lot for people with disabilities. I believe having hope and thinking positively in a challenged situation are things we all need to do everyday.

Here is someone who gave to those less fortunate. It should be a lesson to us all.

Interesting that the US TV networks don't show the Special Olympics after they make their money on the 'regular' Olympics...

Sadly, that is the reality.

Anecdotes are always telling in these instances.

Eunice was thought by many to be the smartest of Joe's girls. Maria, her daughter, remembers, "Mother was always working. She made her way in a man's world and never took 'no' for an answer. She knew how to get things done, and she did." Her Brother, Jack, The President, often remarked that whenever Eunice came to see him, "I swallowed deep because she always had an agenda."

Her son Timothy said today, "She never ran for office, but she changed the world."

Just my own two cents here. I have the privilege of sharing the care for a niece (8) and a nephew (10) who are special needs/intellectually challenged children. Lemme tell ya, THEY know who Eunice Shriver was. :D

She Worked Hard For No Money!

:D

Eunice Kennedy Shriver an amazing woman who had the strength and courage to stand up to her mother and the world. Mamma Rose like many of her day tried to keep Rosemary's disability a private family only secret. An experimental lobotomy left Eunice's sister Rosemary with dramatically reduced function and quality of life.

Eunice responded by among other things creating the Special Olympics to honor everyone as special as her sister and to ensure that no more dirty little secrets were kept in other families.

A woman of tremendous heart and enourmous courage. A woman of privilege who chose service to others over self-serving, self-centered desires. A woman of pure motives, a rarity today and in most ages. A great lady and a great loss.
