Good day everyone!

As noted in a previous posting, I will happily share my hotel experiences both good and bad for others to read in order to make an educated choices for hotel arrangements.

My latest stay in Charlotte, NC I was able to land an amazing deal at the Westin located in downtown. Being I lived in Charlotte for almost 5 years, I was very familiar with this hotel and excited when I was able to get a room there. That said, my feelings were somewhat mixed and I was a bit disappointed. Upon arrival, the common areas were just as I remembered which were very lavish and quite modern. Though, the room I was given was less than what it should have been especially with the Westin's standards for the following reasons:

- Bedding had numerous stains of various colors

- Lamps had a number of burnt out bulbs

- Several electrical outlets didn't work even after I turned on all the light

switches in the room

- Hotel towels were very scratchy and thin

- Several stains on the carpet

- Internet wireless signal was very weak

- Flat screen TV had volume issues

- Alarm clock continually had to be reset to what appeared to be VERY brief

power outage

- Security card reader on hotel door had difficulty

Positive attributes:

- Views of downtown was amazing

- Hotel bar and restaurant was very good

- Located very close to the downtown restaurants and light rail train

- Five minute ride from airport

- Hotel staff was very friendly and always used registered name when calling

front desk

- The bed was absolutely amazing and very soft

That said, I would excercise caution if booking this hotel as regular room rates would not be worth it. There was a day when this hotel was considered Charlotte premier but IMHO, that ship has come and gone.

Hope this helps!

Perfect!

Thanks so much for that bit of info as I was not aware of that site nor did I think about submitting pictures which is a great idea! I'm going to take pictures of my current room here in Philadelphia for when I submit a review on the site you suggested.

Thank you again and very kind of you for letting me know about it. :)

I hope that you post your reviews of hotels over at http://www.tripadvisor.com along with pics of your rooms. Many of us hop over there to check out hotels before we book them and the pics really help since hotels like to show their best rooms and not what one will actually be getting.

Hugs,

Greg

Well

When you get a good rate then you might get a room that is not so great. However, if you don't like your room then you can always ask for another room. They usually comply to your request as long as hotel is not hundred percent booked. You had a lot of problems in that hotel room. I hope they fixed the problems you've mentioned. If you have time write a letter to the manager since you travel a lot they might give you a discount on your next stay.

You didn't mention whether you informed management of the problems with your room. Good managers want to hear about the problems so that they can correct them.

sometimes when a hotel give a room for "free" with points or a "deal" from an on line site, you get the worst rooms in the hotel (condition, view, noise, etc). you could always ask for a new room, especially if it is the condition that is causing a problem.
