As has been reported in previous posts, Numbers is changing dramatically. The following is a quote I believe from the manager / owner or someone at the restaurant:

"Numbers has been known as a hustler bar for 33 years, but the truth is bars down the street have more hustlers in a night than we do in a month. Your point about boys walking around in underwear is well taken, and we are NOT going to be having boys anymore on a regular basis. We are aiming to become more mainstream, and welcome anyone for a nice place to spend part or all of their evening. There will be only one night a week that will have boys and girls that will be dressed more risque, and that will be Saturday nights (used to be every Wednesday). It's called "Industry," and it's about porn stars. On that night the host will be fully clothed until around 10pm, and also please keep in mind they are part of the hosting and venue. They will be classed up, so it is not as skimpy as it use to be. Please keep this in mind, if you went to a cabaret show, you wouldn't take off your clothes just to fit in. You would still probably get dressed up to go out to that venue.

Our vision is to make it a special place where WeHo can be proud of once again. It was known as an iconic place where Hollywood socialites use to go, and have a great dinner and never be bothered. Our aim is to make it once again that, which it was world famous for. It wasn't all about hustlers even back then, it was known for fine food, great bar & restaurant, and a elegant safe haven for anyone and everyone."

The problem with this is that his food nor his prices for his food make it a venue that I would visit for the food alone. I think that he is creating problems with this change. But I know that his business is suffering due to the economy and he wants to make it as mainstream as possible. But it is very unlikely that I will be returning.

I vistited LA for the Memorial Day weekend and decided not to patronize the place based on what I'd read here. Only time will tell if this change is one that enhances the business and allows it to survive. I surmise that the ownership would not be willing to admit that such a drastic change ultimately leads to its demise even if it were the case.

When in L.A. I always make it a point to visit numbers, have dinner and enjoy the men. I have been a customer of Numbers for nearly 10 years and found it busier and more interesting since they added the scantily clad men. The food is good but not worth the price without the men. If the men are gone I will have dinner and drinks down the street.

Sounds like the Kiss of Death to me. What an incredibly stupid owner.

If the owner of Numbers is concerned about going more mainstream or "classy", what gives with the dress code policy and the non-adherence to it? The policy is on their website, and I think I saw it on one or two posted signs in the bar.

I was there two weeks ago on industry night. I was the only patron dressed according to the code. I didn't think much of it until I read this post. The owner seems to have no business acumen. He doesn't know or even have a target market, and has no idea what product or service he can provide to the market.

I enjoyed myself while there, and the boys were very friendly to me, but if it becomes a "mainstream" club/bar, I would not go again. Those places are everywhere and a "dime-a-dozen." The only reason I go to any club or bar is that it is something unique from all the other boring time-wasters.

Several years ago, it changed ownership, closed down for months for a few minor changes, reopened as Digits or something and went broke. The customers left en mass to the Eleven and elsewhere and Digits was a desert. New owner then went back to numbers, brought in the host and did good business. But doesn't want a gay bar. Why don't they learn?

Jay Leno in his last monologue said that "the economy is so bad that in West Hollywood, I saw a gay bar having a ladies night".

I guess he's been to Numbers too. . .
