Well today the 17th at 615 am marks one month since I have had a ciggie and the 22nd will mark one month since I've had any nicotine (was doing the gum) in my system. I pretty much did it cold turkey this time and only allowed myself one piece of gum a day. Soooooooo hard and it is still hard. I really want a ciggie when I get home from the day job but rather then going to grab a pack of ciggies I grab my super minty gum instead and chew away. I am really shocked that I've gone a month and no one has died. A few people have gotten a good verbal lashing but all in all they did deserve it. I look forward to when the craving goes almost completely away with the exception and I know it'll come up from time to time craving. I haven't noticed food tasting any better yet but my nose despite being plugged up due to allergies is getting quite sensitive and EEEEWWWW!!!! Some people out there really need some help is all I am saying. So here goes to hopefully being smoke free for another month. Oh I did not due this for health reasons I did it for the money LOL. A pack of smokes cost about $8 now here in Seattle and I can think of better things to put that $8 towards.

Hugs,

Greg

Congratulations Gregg

Remember to be vigilant thinking that just one puff to stop a passing craving in a weak moment is all it takes to get you back on the habit.

Congratulations~~

Greg--

Way to go---enjoy the rest of your life ciggie-free. The first few days, then first week, then the first MONTH are the hardest and you have got through those. I quit May 29th, 1985 and have not had a puff since. I am not usually good with dates, but that one was so significant I think I'll always remember.

No advice on what to do with the extra money you will have---but find something you really enjoy and didn't have the cash for when you were hooked ;))))

Greg....old cliche, I know, but take it one day at a time...you probably know that....stay busy and distracted

very, very important that you stay away from cigarettes the rest of your life...there is a lot more than lung health involved....blood circulation, oxygen levels in the blood, general sense of well-being, endurance level....I'm not a doc, so can't list them all....

both my parents smoked for their entire adult lives until

they recently each died from smoking-related disease.....it's a horrible ugly habit, unattractive, smelly, even displaying low self-confidence???....

a few months before my Mom died, I wheeled her into the local mall to go look around....we went by this small group of 18-20-year olds smoking away outside the door....my Mom said something like, "keep doing that and you'll end up like me" and they gave a smug grunt of a response....I'm sure they had to be tough in front of their friends, but how they even started in this day is amazing....

I chalk a lot of this up to low self-confidence, at least as to why people start.....the physical addiction, of course, explains why they continue.......

CONGRATULATIONS GREG: As to what to do with the money....... calculate how much you used to spend per month on ciggies and open a new bank account. Every month put that amount into it. Watching the money grow will be a constant reminder of the "old" days and will be an incentive to not slip back into your old ways.
