The violent Russian break-up of the Gay Pride protest in Moscow was sickening. New Yorkers need to protest in front of the Russian consulate to voice their displeasure.

Furthermore, I read somewhere that the police did nothing to prevent or stop the violent protesters from assaulting the participants in the Gay Pride.

I'm thinking like other Problems the people who deal with this Oppression should be the ones to Rally THEIR Countrymen, just as we Americans always have done.

Today's LA Times reported that the police were involved in the violence. Apparently, the mayor of Moscow feels that homosexuals and homosexuality are immoral.

Russian Homophobia

 

This may be better placed in the secton under Europe... or in the section under politics, but for what it is worth.....

 

As one with some experience of Moscow and its very limited gay scene, buyer beware. Escorts are OK, but many are compromised by the state police (KGB/ now FSB) and your trysts are not as private as you may think. Escorts' phones and e-mails are routinely tapped, and some even go so far as to film your meeting for use later.

 

Oddly, many cadets, soldiers, police etc... work on the side as escorts, thanks to the disasterous economic situation (even army personnel attached to high official's security!!!!).

 

For a place that oozes so much homophobia at its highest levels, it is ironic how often you see transvestites on State TV, openly gay singing artists and actors nightly on programs or in concerts, and whispered rumors about the "tastes" of political figures and Russian Mafia types at the highest levels for some man to man action.
