I shall be going to Montreal in May and traveling with a friend who wants more diversions than the stripper bars, so.....

1. The Casino is one stop he wants to make. Beside gaming machines, card games, are there any entertainment venues out there? And what's the best way to go---drive, metro, any other??

2. Anyone know of any special events, festivals, show, going on the last weekend in May? I've checked a couple of festival sites but still could use some help.

3. Old Montreal, Chinatown are also on our must sees---walking from our hotel. From the Gouverneur are there other "gems" that we should not miss---other than the main Gay sites along Ste. Catherine?

4. Any suggestions from fellow Montreal lovers would be welcome. I'm familiar with the four stripper bars and that scene, and thank the latest posters, so that's pretty well covered.

Thank you ;O

P.S. We'll probably do the Biodome also, anyone been recently??

While I have difficulty relating to someone who requires more diversion than naked hunks in a strip club, :) I have in the past, visited: tourisme-montreal.org prior to my trips for 'things to do' information. It's an interactive site which allows you to input your trip dates and responds with only those events/festivals which apply to your stay. It's a good resource, I've found. I don't have any Biodome updates since it's been several years since my last visit there. Enjoy your time there...I'm anxiously awaiting my next trip this summer.

So much to do it's hard to start. The tourism site MTLover mentioned will tell you everything going on while you're there. I never miss the Fine Arts and Contemporary Arts Museums. Lots of music always, of all varieties. By May the Botanic Garden should be wonderful. Any guide book will list plenty of interesting walks, squares, and parks. The art galleries in Outremont. And on and on...

Karl-G had a wonderful long post on this within the last couple of years -- search for it!

What I LOVE about Montreal is that there is so much to do in the day, and then the Village at night. I kinda’ feel like if I walk a lot during the day, then I’ve earned several beers at night atop Sky Bar and in the strip clubs!

For sure you and your friend will want to buy the Montreal Museums Pass - http://www.museesmontreal.org. I always get the three-day pass, which includes unlimited use of the Metro and buses for $50.

Must-sees are the Botanic Garden – the second largest in the world… don’t miss the Chinese Garden and Japanese Garden… amazing… plus the glass houses. It’s just two blocks from the Metro.

Nearby is the Biodome… go see the penguins. I know it’s largely a family attraction but you’ve got the museums pass and it’s fun!

Take the Metro to St. Helen’s Island and visit the Biosphere. Take the bus from there and it’s just a couple of minutes on to the Casino. The Casino is an awesome art deco –style building. Great restaurants and worth a visit even for non-gamblers.

While you’re in Montreal, the Imagine exhibition is on at the Museum of Fine Arts - http://www.mmfa.qc.ca/imagine – can’t wait to see it later in the year. Plus the museum has a diverse permanent collection spanning Old Masters to modern art.

Just enjoy wandering around... the Latin Quarter… rue St. Denis a good starting point. More adventurous? Head up to The Plateau neighborhood, kinda’ hipster vibe… take the Metro to Laurier or Mont-Royal and explore. Some of the squares are beautiful, like Square Saint-Louis… when you’re there, find rue Prince-Arthur, it’s a fun, lively street. Find a coffee shop and enjoy people-watching. Also just wandering around the Old Town and Port is fun, if a little more tourist’y.

Want an amazing view of Montreal? Visit the Marguerite-Bourgeoys Museum (on the museums pass) and climb to the top for the highest view of Old Montreal - http://www.marguerite-bourgeoys.com

Like modern art? Head to Museum of Contemporary Art (on the museums pass). It ain’t quite NY or SF MOMA, but it’s a neat space with some great exhibitions throughout the year.

I’m going to stop now as I can go on forever about Montreal.

You’ll have an amazing trip!

If you enjoy good food you'll be in Restaurant Heaven.

Spend time in Old Montreal - atmosphere is like going back in time hundreds of years and the food is wonderful.
