Michael Lucas accuses Brent Corrigan of child porn!!

 

The big topic of discussion wasn't the winners of the GayVN's but the fact that Michael Lucas stormed the stage and yelled "shame on you" to the judges for nominating Brent Corrigan since he started doing porn when he was underage and that he jeopardizes the entire industry. Apparently Michael was met with boos and some cheers. According to Jason Secrest's blog, Michael had to get a restraining order against Brent's boyfriend because he threatened Michael at an afterparty. Drama all around.

Well no awards ceremony would be complete without an impromptu audition for 'Biggest Drama Queen of the Night' award, and goodness knows, Michael has plenty of experience in that regard. My own suspicion is that Michael rightfully sees Brent as fierce competition in the category of 'Biggest Publicity-Seeking Egomaniac in the Gay Porn World' and chose to remind people at the GAYVNs of his own undoubted talents in that regard.

 

As you might gather, I find the whole GAYVN shtick to be a rather tiresome annual occasion for the same pack of folks to party and pat themselves on the back. Unlike say the Cybersocket awards or even 'the Hookies' where fans can actually have their say through voting, the whole GAYVN nomination/award process is run behind closed doors with a few anonymous industry insiders deciding which of their peers will walk away with this year's acolades. To me, the whole process reeks of contempt for the people who make their ego-trips possible (i.e. the fans who put down their cash to pay for it all) - a contempt I, as one of those consumers, find easy to heartily reciprocate.

The world is more interesting with people like Michael Lucas, at least if they stay far, far from me. You can read his account on his blog and see he admits to harassing the people at the show ahead of time to not let Brent present, interrupting the show with a speech meant to embarrass audience member Brent over a story probably 3 or 4 years old, and then sitting up all night in his hotel room after having called the SF Police Dept in the middle of the night and then again at 7am after calling Brent's room to see if he had arrived back. Oh that drama-queen. I remember a Ricki Lake show with "gay" porn star Billy Brandt on it and Lucas went on unexpectedly only to harass the guy and humiliate him. "Billy,,,uh,,,what's your last name again?"

What a weekend!

 

I just got home and wanted to add some notes for clarification and say I'm shocked that the pot has only been stirred to four replies on THIS topic. Given the underlying nature of Michael's accusation I found it only appropriate the Brent Corrigan of the escort industry might as well reply. Yes, I can poke fun at myself.

 

The shame issue has to do with the fact that this year they were honoring an advocate dedicating themselves to fighting child pornography. It wasn't JUST that he was underage ... hence the fact that an old story was being drudged up.

 

The nomination and awards process is not simply a few ... if you look at the program it's a good 20 or thirty. As much as it seems that way the odds are not stacked. They really try to get a wide range of tastes in choosing the award winners but people will vote the way they do in ANY election .. what's most familiar. Let's face it. If these people had to watch EVERY single porn given a thumbs up they'd rub their dicks so raw and have time for nothing else because at these awards it's not so much an honor to be nominated but an INSULT to not be.

 

Ahh if only Brent/Paul had stayed in my room a little longer (they left at 6:45) maybe the inevitable could have been delayed. They had words at the club and people got in each others faces. I will say I believe Michael was being a little overdramatic (which is nothing new) and probably was using the fact that Brent's boyfriend has a violent history against him considering there were 3 AM phone calls to porn authorities "demanding all information on Brent Corrigan because he was going to destroy him." You can make a complaint at ANY hour and ask for a restraining order -- actually getting it in writing might take a while longer.

 

All in all my two cents is straddling the fence. Michael Lucas is a love him or hate him kind of guy. I've tried to ride that fence because when he's not "on" he's not the asshole that he portrays to the world -- that's just a persona he plays. Brent is a good kid who is living the "porn" dream and doing it VERY well, as Saturday night shows he was one of the big winners including a category where he truly HAS to act considering he prefers topping. He fucked up and yes, it put the industry at risk which is what all the pornographic pundits are preaching at the moment. It's a mountain out of a mole hill as it's a single person's fuckup -- not an industry wide attack. He's managed to bounce back from it and for that you've got to give him credit. Should he be a little more remorseful that proud of his ability to photoshop? Probably. But as we've seen in the adult industry overall -- some people just don't care no matter what you do to seek forgiveness.

Well thank you, Scott, for that incisive, albeit a bit muddled, commentary on the Porn Oscars. Your observations almost rise to the quality sometimes found not quite "re-written" in blogs. :-)

 

As a consumer of porn, I am a huge fan of the amateur genre, and I find the VN Awards boring beyond belief. It's almost like the Inside the Beltway political game - only insiders count.

 

Unless I miscounted, there were a total of two amateur awards - best amateur actor and best amateur video. What a fucking joke.

.... I couldn't agree with you more. I spent many fun filled hours with MJ Taylor this weekend from Cockboys and recently dated a couple from the same website -- what can I say ... they know my taste. I still don't think dating porn stars is ever going to work out for me but alas the pool gets a bit small and shallow when in this industry :-/

 

The amateur porn industry is getting bigger and bigger but it is the big name studios that provide the SPONSORSHIP. They noted that this was the first year for an INTERNET based awards so it's at least a step in the right direction. Hopefully this will be a snowballing trend and they wont just focus on the websites of the same studios already being nominated.

 

Goal for next year: Less Awards. Less Nominees. More of a point.

All of those would be good, but what would really make a difference is a more transparent process. As it stands right now, the GAYVNs mean nothing to me, as a fan, because I have no idea who does the nominating, who picks the categories, who does the judging, what criteriae (if any) are used by the judges, and so on.

 

In addition, ncm makes a good point about their neglect of the amateur genre. I mean it was nice to see Dink Flamingo get a 'Lifetime Achievement' award because I think he's the best guy out there making amateur military porn. But I can't help but notice that this recognition only came after he started another 'professional' west-coast based studio (Dirty Bird Productions) nearly 2 years ago. So, was the award for his years of work in the amateur field, or was it for spending a bunch of money by opening shop in San Diego, employing long-time directors Mike Donner and Jett Black and dipping into the same pool of models used by everyone else? I have my suspicions on that one...

... I understand your point but think about what you're "expecting."

 

As I mentioned in my first post there are about 20 or 30 judges from all aspects of the industry and all could be considered "fans." Are you just angling to BE one of those judges? What makes you more qualified to judge than Joe Jerkoff down the street? They try to get as wide a range of tastes from people with "credibility" in the industry who don't stand to gain anything from a particular win.

 

An example would be Billy Masters ( http://www.billymasters.com/) -- gossip columnist. Quite the extroverted personality, porn commentator, and yenta he is not actually INVOLVED in the porn industry but VERY involved in the adult industry.

 

Having agreed with someone asking me, "No really, what ARE you doing here?" at one of the events one of the heads asked if I'd be interested in being involved SOME HOW next year and among those options could be judging.
