Has anyone here ever been to Spectrum in Baltimore? Since it is now the only gay strip club in the DC area I'm thinking of checking it out. Their website sucks because it has no pictures. http://www.spectrummen.com/index.html

So has anyone been? How cute are the dancers? How many dancers do they have out at a time? What are their rules in regards to touching? Any other interesting tid bits of information?

I've been there a few times. 2-3 dancers at a time on the first floor, 0-2 at a time on the second floor. A few dancers from DC now working there. Dancers are not aggressive. $8 cover. Parking is difficult; can park for $5 at the Burger King nearby. Not top quality, but worth checking out. Employees are friendly.

Amateur contest on Thursday at 11:30

Open Th/Fri/Sat only, 7 PM to 1 AM only. Dancers start at 8 PM.

Have been contemplating checking out the Spectrum. Do the dancers strip all the way or just down to g-strings or briefs?

Thanks for the info so far.

What do you mean that the dancers aren't aggressive?

Are they cute?

How much touching is allowed?

Too bad they don't have a back room like Heat did.

I wonder if any of the dancers ever escort.

So what are the rules on touching?

After hearing of Spectrum from this site, I travelled to Baltimore this past Thursday and again on Saturday to check out the action.

The bar is two floors, first floor dancing begins at 8pm, second floor opens at 9pm. Its not a big place. More like a converted townhouse. Minimal crowd both nights I was there. About 8 dancers.

Dancers range from one or two buff to some scary, thin looking guys with buzz cuts who look like they could be extras in a concentration camp movie. And I am no size queen, but some are sporting the tiniest dicks I have ever seen anywhere. Cover is $8. Drinks very reasonable. A big negative for me and one reason I am reluctant to return is the large number of straight females who poured in on Saturday night. This to me completely changes the dynamic of the place. The "straight" dancers play to the females and the girls get out of control. Either have a ladies' night or require them to be escorted by a male to enter. Is it a gay bar or not? Parking is not easy and its a borderline neighborhood that could be dicey late at night. There is an arrangement for parking at a Burger King across the street. All in all, a so-so experience.

I think the best solution to this problem is along the lines of one that was reported earlier in another thread.

Cover charge for males is $8.00

Cover charge for females if $50.00

That solves the problem real fast.

Attended the Thursday night amateur contest. Three contestants. The bar is having a $400 amateaur nude strip contest next Saturday, November 18, 11:30 PM.

The bar has been remodeled, with a longer bar. Dancers now dance on the bar. About 10 dancers were on tonight's schedule. Upstairs non-smoking; downstairs smoking area.

Dancers so/so to good. A pleasant experience, considering that there are no other nude dance bars between Atlanta and New England.

I went there on a recent Saturday and loved it. It's not as nice as Secrets used to be. The biggest drawback is that the dicks are all soft. Is there no basic training for a manager of this type of club where they teach you the basics? But there are a couple of very hot guys. And it's less professional than it used to be at the DC clubs if you know what I mean. I talked more with the talent than I ever did at Secrets/Wet. I think they have about 8 dancers. Definitely check it out. I had a great time. There are some pictures at http://www.myspace.com/blowjob921 . Charles was one of my favorites. Beautiful smile. Rules about touching: not above the knee although there seems to be a little bit of leeway.

I visited the Spectrum last night. Technically, this qualifies as my first visit to a gay bar. I have been to places in San Francisco w/ male strippers before, but they were more like theater settings w/o a bar. Just giving the above info as background so you understand my thoughts and observations are not necessarily from the well trained eye.

>Not sure where to start, so will pick up on some comments/questions from previous posters and add my input. So this may appear as a recap summary to some. I'm sure all nights are different, and so some of my observations may be different than previous posts.

>How cute are the dancers?

Cute is such a relative term...I found all to be cute. Almost all are are the slim thin white twinkish type with two exceptions; a young hairy Italian-Irish type (HOT) and an Asian decent dancer w/ a killer smile.

Again, all were cute in my opinion, but doesn't mean I was attracted to all. One was just too fem for me and one was wasted (from drinking) and it just made him look trashy. Also, a couple smoke and for me that is a turn-off. But as mentioned above in the number of escorts that were there, there was more than plenty to draw my interest.

>Dancers range from one or two buff to some scary, thin looking guys with buzz cuts who look like they could be extras in a concentration camp movie.

I didn't see any buff guys, but snoopy was right in that most are thin. Not concentration camp thin (bad Snoopy! bad dog! LOL).

>And I am no size queen, but some are sporting the tiniest dicks I have ever seen anywhere.

>The biggest drawback is that the dicks are all soft.

As far as dick size, yes you see most of them in a natural flaccid state - think growers not showers. Was lucky enough to see that some are truly growers! I never saw one of them touch themselves (not sure if it is a rule or not - will have to ask next time). One of the dancers that likes to give neck massages provided a nice thrill...I stepped up to tip him (upper floor stage), he leaned over and started rubbing my neck (great neck rub by the way), I was staring into his eyes the whole time (those that know me know I make a lot of eye contact) when I looked down, he was hard (again....not touching himself). When I stepped away, the crowd showed their appreciation (1-as mentioned by others seeing a hard-on there is not the norm, 2-it was quite impressive).

>How many dancers do they have out at a time?

>The bar is two floors, first floor dancing begins at 8pm, second floor opens at 9pm.

>The bar has been remodeled, with a longer bar. Dancers now dance on the bar.

Started out with 2 on first floor at 8pm....but by the end of the night had 4-5 dancing on the first floor bar, 2 on a small first floor stage and 2 on a stage upstairs. There was always a dancer circulating selling shots too. Still, there was even a few circulating the crowd between sets. Considering how small this place is, I was surprised at the number of dancers. I would think this would dilute the number of tips one would receive in an evening....but I was not complaining! :)

>Upstairs non-smoking; downstairs smoking area.

In theory, but not reality last night. I went upstairs to escape the smoke...all was good until about 10:30...then was just as full of smokers as downstairs! GROSS! What's up with all the chain smoking gay guys? I think Baltimore may be going smoke free in the future - should make it a much more pleasant experience for people like me, but looking at the percentage of chain smokers in the crowd, it may put a dent in their business if the non-smokers do not fill the void.

>Do the dancers strip all the way or just down to g-strings or briefs?

As noted by previous poster, they do get nude. They danced in 20 minute sets and started in briefs/underwear, then got nude after or during the first song.

>What are their rules in regards to touching?

while on stage and nude, no touching above the knee.

>Any other interesting tid bits of information?

>Dancers are not aggressive. $8 cover. Parking is difficult; can park for $5 at the Burger King nearby. Not top quality, but worth checking out. Employees are friendly.

>More like a converted townhouse. Minimal crowd both nights I was there.

Yes - very small tight space. Just a couple people when I arrived at 8pm. By 9pm, the first floor bar had all seats filled and people standing. By 9:30 pm, second floor was half full. By 10pm, the place was packed. People started trickling out after midnight....closed at 1am.

>Cover is $8. Drinks very reasonable.

Yup...found the same. Drinks (vodka/7-up) for me were $3 bucks a pop.

Same for bottled water.

>A big negative for me and one reason I am reluctant to return is the large number of straight females who poured in on Saturday night. This to me completely changes the dynamic of the place. The "straight" dancers play to the females and the girls get out of control. Either have a ladies' night or require them to be escorted by a male to enter.

My observation last night (Friday) was there were a few females but all were with guys (think fag hags). Guys were polite to them, but didn't cater too much to them.

>Parking is not easy and its a borderline neighborhood that could be dicey late at night.

True, parking is a situation. They do have a parking arrangement with a nearby lot (Burger King area), but not sure of the price. Have to get the permit inside Spectrum though.

Closing thoughts: I arrived just before 8pm before the dancing begain. Talked with a couple dancers before/after their sets and they filled me in on all the activities/rules etc. Interesting that dancers have to stay and clean up the place after the bar closes.

Other than the smoke, I enjoyed the evening. Again, was first time in a 'gay' bar. Several nice looking patrons in the crowd...all were very friendly (3 patrons passed me phone numbers). Crowed ranged from 20's to 70's but mostly 30's/40's last night. Saw a few of the older guys that well, let's just say I hope that is not me in 25/30 years.

OK...hope I wasn't too verbose. For an $8 cover and $3 drinks, it is worth stopping in for the experience. There is an ATM on site if you don't bring along tipping money! :+

I do not know. It is against the establishment rules to solicit the dancers.

Yes...last night they made the announcement. Stay tuned - they hope to rise from the ashes in some new form/location.

Does anyone know why it closed?

I was just there last weekend for the first time. They had just opened an upstairs and seemed to be growing.

To be honest, the dancers put on a lousy show. All twinks...no variety...and all they did was jiggle/dance very fast. They did not even stop dancing when you were tipping them. No one mingled with the crowd at all. Only one dancer, an older built one, knew what the word "sexy" meant, or how to work a crowd. Still...I am surprised it closed, as it was crowded.

>Does anyone know why it closed?

From what I am told, the owners were not the managers. The owners sold the building (and liquor license). So it may go back to a female strip bar, or possibly just a bar.

Does anyone know if Specturm is open tonight, Sept. 8th? The website says that they're close, but the voicemail says that it will be open on September 7th and 8th.
