Just returned from a week in South Florida.

Dudes is near the beach, a little hard to find at first. Its rather on the small side. The bar is divided into two sides, one for dancers. The night I was there they had five guys dancing. Mostly muscle types. I did not stay long. Johnnys had six guys the night I stopped by, more of the twink type. They dance one at a time on a small stage area for about ten minutes. There is no private dance area. The only way the guys make money there is from tips from their stage dance or circulating around the bar. I overheard the bartender tell a customer that the place is being sold. Torpedos is the most beautiful of the clubs, but the two nights I stopped by the place was dead. There were only 2 or 3 dancers. I was told they don't get busy until 1 or 2am!!! Too late for me. They also have an area for private lap dances. The most active place in Ft. Lauderdale is Boardwalk. A crowd every evening. They have dancers starting around 5pm, but only 2 or 3 at first. Dancers slowly filter in between 5 and 10pm. Usually 15-20 guys working most nights. The guys are all types. I would say about 90 per cent are latino. They have a private dance area but it is a very small room, about 10x12 which includes: the dj booth, one couch and 2 other soft chairs. It is so cramped that you are frequently being jostled by the person sitting beside or across from you as you rub knees. Private dances are usually around $20 a song, but some dancers will ask for as much as $30. No clear idea of when a song starts or ends. Some dancers give shorter than others. They keep their shorts on but will pull them down somewhat. They have drag queens acting as announcers and they can be pretty loud and annoying and non-stop in their screaming and commentary. You can't even hear yourself think when they get going. Also went to Cupids twice. This is the club that seemed most like Montreal. They have a number of private rooms in the back. A very nice large club. Dancers take turns dancing on a large square stage in the center of the room and take tips. They are available for private dances after. Rooms are $40 for 15 mins, $60 for thirty. This is just for the room, you pay the dancer for their time. Most will start off asking for $200-250, but $150 is usual for 30 mins.

Be up front about what you desire. Their website lists specials on different nights (VIP room discounts, etc.) but they had nothing like this available so I guess they don't update the site or thats just a gimmick. Some weekends they will have a porn star performing at night. He will do three shows, each one getting more and more raunchy drawing in other dancers and even customers onto the stage. So overall, had a great time, weather was wonderful, but Montreal remains the premiere dancer venue IMHO.

Great summary snoopy! Thanks for saving me a lot of keystrokes, as I was about to up a similar post on my experience over the last few weeks in South Florida (I'm here for a month). I pretty much agree with what you've said. Only a few things to add:

If you hit Dudes on a night when Will is there it makes it worth the trip to the beach.

The quality of the dancers at Cupids and Boardwalk has declined dramatically from prior years - to the point where, most nights, I can't even find one worth paying for. Only a few of them would even qualify for an audition at Stock! I am so far below my budget, I can't believe it!

A lot of the dancers at Boardwalk that I used to find very attractive seem to have gotten the idea that going to the gym and watching what they eat isn't that important for a dancer (not that I'm one to talk).

The guys at Cupids are SO average looking that business has really gone downhill. The place used to be standing room only every weekend but the last 3 weekend nights I have gone there were probably less than 40 patrons (around 11pm) and around 10 very plain looking dancers. And one outrageously hot looking bartender (Victor) who seems completely unavailable.

On a positive note:

I have a hunch there may be a special audition at Boardwalk this Wednesday; any fans of Montreal icons should try to come by this weekend! (And I'm not talking about SHAD)
