I assume there may not be much happening this weekend due to the Hurricane damage and cleanup.

Have things come to a standstill?

Fortunately, I have a fully refundable airline ticket. But will not make Gold Elite for 2006. Postponed the same trip due to last months Hurricane.

One could assume, there will be less competition, if the bars can get some activity going for the weekend.

I was wondering the same thing about Wilma vs Ft. Lauderdale. From what I read, it was pretty bad. I'm sure we won't be getting reports from members in Ft. Lauderdale since the power is out, but does someone have information about the area? Thanks.

Thought I'd throw my 2-cents in as I'm currently in Miami waiting to fly out of here. My flights been rescheduled 3 times already.

NOTHING is happening here. Most of the area (like 96%) has no electricity and they have said it may take up to 4 weeks to get power fully restored.

SOBE is without power and the couple of shops that did open up have now closed because they sold whatever food they could and now have nothing. Washington Ave (the main drag) is completely littered with big trees, canopies that were destroyed and torn off buildings.

A few minutes ago they said that the curfew remains in effect, so no one is allowed out past 8PM because there are no streetlights and they don't want people out walking in the dark.

Cell service is very spotty as well.

Thank God I already enjoyed my stay and am just waiting to get out!

My understanding is that FTL is worse than SOBE ... but I can't imagine what that's like because SOBE is bad enough.

Quiet time

I just cancelled Weds redeye flight to FLL.

Will start planning a trip to SoAmer in the Spring.

Tha airport was suppose to open today, but uncertain.

The Hotel closed rolled up the Welcome mat, and closed for the day at % PM. No one was there with the electricity outexcept for some generator.

Talked with several in the Miami/Lauderdale area and decided to postpone my trip November 4th to 8th. Even though Loews folks in SoBe said they were fully operational and things weren't that bad, I suspect they just wanted to keep the business. The Ft.Lauderdale Oceanfront Hotel (Doubletree) said they had significant damage and would be closed for a few weeks.

Rescheduled the trip for Thanksgiving Weekend. Hopefully things will be better by then.

Greetings from a south florida poster ... who fled to orlando for the past weekend so he could have the basics like electricity, warm water and internet access.... and, no, the escort scene in orlando has not improved at all.

Status on South Florida ... I live in oakland park (a city in broward county/ft lauderdale) and work on south beach

SouthBeach has power in most of the tourist areas. Hotels are begging for guests and the night lifescene was dead because of curfews. I think curfews willbe lifted shortly (if they're not already). The challenge is getting anywhere ... many gas stations remain closed, so taxis are having challenge keeping fueled.

Fort Lauderdale is worse by far than Miami. As of this morning's news, fewer than 80 stoplights were working (out of about 1,400) .... oneof my die hard boardwalk friends reported that they were open, using car batteries to operate some lighting and a boombox ... the upside is that the boys get realfrisky in these circumstances .. the downside is, do you really want to spend your vacation amidst the destruction of a hurricane ... just for a visual ...the condo building across from boardwalk lost 85% of its windows ... for at least another week, it's sort of like we're in a 3rd world country with no power, boil water alerts, and gas lines.

Come see us at thanksgiving ... I'm sure we'll be better able to host!
