I have noticed recently that the plumpest patrons at the Gaiety will only tip during the finale by holding a generous single dollar in the air, waiting for the dancer to come take it from their hands. If the dancer does not come over, the plump patron puts the dollar back in his pocket.

 

Many of the dancers think it is demeaning, like a meera smella. But they want the money, so go to pick it up. Does anyone know the origins of this new tribal ritual?

I saw this too, but didnt know what to make of it. I also noticed on guy sitting one row behind the front row of the stage who waited until the dancers picked up their tips, to give them the money. Guess he wanted them to know that it was him who was giving the money
