Washington DC Clubs

I have not seen any postings recently for Wet or the Follies. I am in DC next week for 4 days and will be free on Friday nite. I have not been to the clubs there in a few years. I think the one that was also on O street closed - the name escapes me. Anyone have any updates?

Both Secrets and Wet are still right where they have been for the past couple of decades... so I am sure you will find them to be in the same shape that you did the last time you were in town. La Cage has closed, but a new place called Heat has opened in their place. I don't know much about it, since I haven't been to it, but here is some info on each of the places from one of our local gay rags, the MW:

I understand that Heat is dreadful (I was there once about 3 weeks ago).

 

I haven't been to Wet in years, but I understand that the dancers are mostly below par and there are too many women there for the taste of most gay visitors.

 

I go to Secrets on Fridays/Saturdays, and I think it is the best. See their website for a few dancer pics at http://www.secretsdc.com

Many of the cuter dancers are not pictured here. It's now open every night except Monday.

Thanks for that. I remember my first trip to Wet 5 years or so ago - DC Chandler was dancing there. Wow. Would be hard to match that now by the sounds of it.

David, the dancer manager at WET has been working on getting some fresh blood in the mix. He has sevral cuties, but not a lot of muscle. Whn Atlas danced there a while back, the fans were pretty much mobbing him. David tries to keep a nice variety. For a while, whenever he would get a few hot guys, they would be stolen by Secrets. Sure enough, I went there one Saturday night and at least half the dancers were Wet veterans.

 

WET is lower key and usually not as crowded as Secrets. Wet's big attraction is that it is across the street from Nation, so the young dance crowd sometimes meets up at WET before heading to Nation later. For the rest of us, WET strikes me more like a friendly neighborhood gay bar that just happens to have naked boys dancing on the bar. I think the cover charge is $7.

 

Wet has generally very nice bartenders. It's true that somehow WET became known by limo drivers or whatever for bachelorette parties, but it seems to be less frequent these days. Then again, it may pick up again in wedding season.

 

I don't have the impression that Wet's a hooker bar, but on occasion, some of the Secrets dancers could get a little aggressive. That's not a universal. I know one of the Secrets guys and he definitely does not do privates.

 

I recommend you try them both. They are only a few blocks away from each other and see one you prefer.

I've gone to heat a few times on fridays because they have the hottest guy in world tending bar. There were actually two hot twinks when I went and a few other guys that others might like, they were too streety for me. Unfortunately business is so slow at heat that bartender I like will likely quit soon.

 

heat would like to offer private dances with strippers but for some reason those are on hold for now.

So I sampled all three clubs Secrets, Heat, and Wet. Starting with the bottom and moving up here is my review.

 

Heat only had about 8 customers and there were three guys dancing and one walking around. There was a cute bartender but that is all I can say. I lasted about 10 minutes just to see if any other dancers were there. That was about 5 minutes too long. Not my cup of tea. Maybe during the week when they have contests it is better but I can't see it lasting long.

 

Wet was similar to what I remembered. A real mix of dancers and a real mix of customers including a lot of young girls. There were a couple really nice young guys dancing especially if you like tall and thinner. When they came up to talk you could tell the weren't the agressive hustler type. There were also a couple more muscular guys. It was hard to get a cab from Wet and given the area was quite glad when a cop came up to chat. He seemed very glad to have someone not drunk or very young to have a normal converstation with - actually a real hunk too.

 

My hands down favorite was Secrets. Of course DC Chandler himself would have made the night for me all on his own. He was as nice to talk to as I remember and extemely easy on the eyes. Another guy Kevin (he is on their website) was amazing as well with very acrobatic moves and a real nice personality. Probably at least 12 or 15 other guys were working of varying types so something for everyone.

I was at Secrets myself last night, and I also had a great time. Dancers included DC Chandler/Luke, Kevin, J.R., Todd, Javier, David, J.J., Rob, Jimmy, Manny, and many others - they will also show you a good time. The barback/waiter on the Ziegfelds side, Chad, is another hottie.
