(I'm normally a PC user).

I am trying to open a freeware program (I downloaded it from the internet). I'm trying to open the .EXE file to install it on a Mac at work and it won't happen. I double click it, the virus software (Virex) scans it, proclaims it okay, then ... nothing. I've tried click and hold, single-click and can't figure out how to get the executable file to run so it can be installed.

This has happened with several other freeware type things, all of which ran perfectly okay on a PC. What should I do?

The two systems are not compatible. They have completely different Instruction Sets, Hardware Architecture, and Executable formats.

I use my Mac specifically because it can't run Windows executables, and so I'm a bit more immune to the Windows Viruses.

Sure you can, if you install a Windows emulator.

(Used to be called SoftWindows ... I've lost track these days.)

But you'll basically be running in Windows.
