username deletion

it isn't mentioned in the FAQ, but i was curious about the process by which one might delete a username. once created, do they exist forever, or is there a way to delete it so that someone else could at some later point choose it himself?

no, i don't really think there is a big line of people waiting for my username. i'm just curious if it is done or if they just float around forever.

Depends on how busy I am at any given time. 3-6 months is the average.
