Hey experienced travelers - I'm think of doing a firsttime quick trip to Rio in late November early December. Thinking of bringing along a good "friend" for the trip.

I can probably only get away for 4-5 days.

How long is the flight from NYC? Is it worth going for this short of time?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Rio is actually the place to meet a good “friend” }(

It takes about 11-1/2 hours to get to Rio from NYC. I do not

believe that there are any direct NYC to Rio flights. You have

to fly through São Paulo or Miami. It is about 9 hours NYC- SP,

about a 1-1/2 wait in SP, and about an hour flight to Rio. I

went to Rio last May, my flight departed JFK at 8pm and (after

the transfers) I arrived in Rio at 8:30am (Rio’s time zone is

an hour later then NY). Departing Rio was also in the evening …

an 8pm flight, transfer at SP arrive at JFK 7:30am the next

morning.

When I went to Rio last May, I was there for 2 weeks – thought

that was too short; however, I certainly could have fun in Rio

during a five day stay. :p

Do you or your “friend” speak Portuguese? If not, I highly

recommend you hire a guide. Brazilians are a lot like Americans

in that most only speak their native language. I booked my trip

and hired a guide through: http://www.gaytravelbrazil.com/ and

recommend them - boa viagem!

Those are Continental Airlines flight patterns.

I sure wish they would activate their NON-STOP from Houston to Rio, which has been approved for some time!

Now I fly into Rio for a stay, and then take a domestic flight for a week in Sao Paulo. That way there is NO change of planes in SP back to Newark, like from Rio to Newark on Continental at this time.

Have you tried http://www.flyertalk.com for info on the CO flight situation for Rio? If you have not checked out this site and it's forums you are really missing some great background information on the whole airline industry. Lot's of industry information plus really good advice about traveling. There are forums on every airline FF program. Those folks know their airlines almost as well as we know our escorts. :-)

Looks like part of the reason CO does not offer the Non-Stop from IAH to Rio may be due to equipment issues based on this thread below.

I have no problem getting Standard Award seats, but then do not get Elite miles for Elite requalification. And when you are not Gold Elite you might as well be a nobody!

Was the guy's question addressed by all? How did ff miles and status come into the picture unless they dictate how long one can stay?

I'd say go for it! Try to stay at least 7 days if you can because you lose a day in traveling from whatever direction. Next month will be my sixth trip to "Mother Brasil" from the West Coast! I anticipate "her" awaiting my friend and me with big "open arms" similarly to the Cristo Redeemer statue which is truly a magnificent, beautifully-crafted, and imposing structure, giving a very sacred and protective stance for all of the cariocas who are below it!

thanks axiom - appreciate you getting this back on track.

I want to take a great buddy (and well known escort) with me on the trip - he's dying to go and wants to experience the sauna scene, etc., as much as I do - probably together and separately - thoughts on this anyone?

I see no problem in taking an escort with you on a trip to a sauna. I'd suggest that you two find the hottest of sauna guys and take him back to your lodging and have the most firy and scorching 3way that you've ever had. Have the guy spend the night, treat him to a wonderful breakfast, and tip him his due before he leaves you two. If all goes quite well, I do think that you two will long remember this experience.

The sauna guys (as a whole) are not as discriminant or as fastidious as some escorts regarding the person/s with whom they have sex; these wonderful guys are principally interested in that paper that is discreetly placed into their hands after the encounter, and I don't write this to take anything away from them in the being human department!! :9
