I'm visiting Budapest in a few weeks time. I hope I'll find time to explore the escort scene. I've read the reviews and and checked relevant posts on this site and would appreciate any updates or further information anyone can offer.

Gay Tailored Tours seems to have a good reputation (at a price). Has anyone used the competition - Budapest Boys and Boys of Budapest (bit confusing !). What about apparent independents on sites like http://www.erados.com etc such as Roberto Giorgio ?

Among the 5 star hotels (Kempinski, Meridien, Royal etc) are any better than others as regards young male "visitors" and overnights ?

What's new on the Duna Korzo and Darling bar ? Any other tips about anything, not just the boys ? I'd be glad of any help.

Staying with the lands of the Crown of St Stephen, for anyone who comes to London, I can recommend the Slovak escort who advertises as "belamiboy" (reviewed here as Mario, London):

http://gaydar.co.uk/belamiboy25

What he says in his ads and what is said about him in the reviews is 100% accurate.

I was in Budapest in November, 2002, so this information is dated and based on the time of my experience. But I'll share it anyway.

I had initially contacted Gay Tailored Tours, and although their offerings and services were top-notch, I felt I could do as well or better on my own, and reserved the option to contact them if my last few days were "fruitless." Their services are costly, to say the least.

I was in Budapest for 8 nights, 7 days.

I stayed at the Marriott, right on the Danube and it was spectacular. The food and service were top notch, and the Corso, the area right outside the hotel, and abutting the river, was a cruiser's delight, ANY time of the day.

Many of the boys there, admittedly, were Romanian thug-type emigrants, who are active, but I also met three (3) guys there who were locals and managed to provide me with a great time, at a very economical cost.

For two of those guys, we stopped in the Marriott and enjoyed the rather expansive dessert table they had set out, and then headed up to my room. There didn't appear to be any problem with that, as long as, I guess, they perceived you were spending money.

Budapest is a wonderful city, full of lots to do. If it stikes you, by all means, visit the museum, the castles, the Jewish ghettoes and any former remnant of communist rule.

Be sure to utilize the subway, as it is a great way to get around, and by all means, try the saunas, as they are full of well-intentioned hungarian men.

Remember that Budapest is actually two (2) cities: Buda and Pest and you should get a good feel for both of these locations.

I DID NOT do any of the bars or clubs, but I am led to believe that they are as good, if not better, than equivalant offerings in Prague.

All things considered, I wouldn't hesitate to go back to Budapest once more, to sample what I missed, although my priority would be London, where the action is non-stop and the allure of that city is absolutely breath-taking.

Was there in July and stayed at the Mariott. Absolutely no prolbem with boys coming up. Right outside the door - the delightful Korso and the sidewalk cafes and restaurants allow you to check out the 5 to 12 working boys walking back and forth.

Found the hustler bar scene to be dreadful - but only went to one.

The boys all know these bars so check it out with them.

>What is the Korso ?

The Dunakorzo is the kind of promenade between the Elisabeth Bridge and the Chain Bridge on the Pest side of the Danube where (I understand) rentboys, often Romanian, hang out. Not sure how it will be in the winter, but I'll find out next week.....

And thanks, Gulliver, for your comments....

When I was in Budapest in late November 2002, the Corso was hopping, during the day from early afternoon to well after midnight. If things haven't changed all that much, you should have no problem at least seeing the boys who are cruising back and forth.

Also a good idea to walk around the surrounding area(s), since you might run into a boy on the way to the Corso, as happened to me.

In my experience, it pays to ask, upfront, where the guy is from. I learned to be especially diligent with the Romanian emigrees; they can be charming and delightful, but many of them had a rough edge that eventually took away from the moment.

Although I didn't personally visit, I am told by several people (including two native Hungarians) that the saunas in Budapest are deefinitely worth a trip or two. Excellent examples of workmanship and that includes the architecture as well.

Have a safe and rewarding trip.

  • 1 month later...

I've been meaning to report back after my trip and your question has reminded me to do so.

First, as we are all different, some general pointers. When searching for an escort in Budapest I checked the following sites (once you've entered, search for Hungary or Budapest):

http://www.americanmale.net

http://www.escortmale.net

http://www.maletreasures.com

http://www.rentboy.com

http://www.escupido.com

http://www.erados.com

I found Erados pretty comprehensive and broadly used other sites for comparative purposes. Erados is an escorts only listing site but the same team also operate http://www.gayromeo.com which has exactly the same escort information plus non-escort personals. gayromeo requires a very simple free registration to access the site and has the advantage that you can send messages to the guys and, if a guy is online, the messaging can be instant. This can be useful for making arrangements.

If you check these sites it quickly becomes apparent that many of the escorts are Hungarian "pornstars", with rates to match. Most of them appear to be on the books of two agencies:

http://www.gaytailoredtours.com (which also has non-pornstar "companions")

http://www.boysbudapest.com (only pornstars, but no working link today)

Gaytailored tours has been favourably reviewed on this site (search escort reviews for Eastern Europe). I was impressed by their promptness and professionalism at my initial contact. But, when it came to the selection of boys, it all became rather inconclusive. I asked further questions after they had made some recommendations and got no answers so I didn't pursue it - but perhaps others would get on better than me (they certainly have some attractive guys).

I made a few contacts with "freelancers" (a couple no longer on erados)but wasn't wholly sure about their suitability or grasp of English (or german). Then I made email contact with the porn actor Roberto Giorgio - a direct email address is available on americanmale.com. Once I'd finalised my plans we had several email exchanges or messages through gayromeo.com - he was a delighful correspondent, playful and practical. Although his rates are not cheap, in fact the same as the "agencies", I decided to book him. (There's a current thread about "London pricing" and whether escorts who are with an agency should charge the agency rate when they freelance - Roberto isn't with an agency and of course he gets to keep all the money,I guess it's all a question of competition and what the market will bear :))

Roberto was just like his photos and profile (http://www.gayromeo.com/Roberto_Giorgio) and punctual, attentive, and great in bed. I saw him for an overnight and then for a 2 hour slot which shows I suppose that I was happy with him (usually I'd do 2 hours and then an overnight !)I signed his guestbook with a much fuller review (under the name NichoLon). If you don't want to register for gayromeo.com, you can still read the guestbook in his profile on erados.com.

The agencies have some great-looking guys and it may be that they offer a proper, professional recommendation service. But I personally found it useful to have direct contact with some of the "independent" guys and so make some judgement about whether they'd suit me or not. From his emails, I decided Roberto was suitable and I wasn't wrong. I think whether you use an agency or contact a guy direct, it's important to be clear about what you want, expect or don't want.

Going now from the "top of the range" to "street" level, I was curious about the boys who cruise the Duna Korso referred to in other postings on this thread. I can see that the Korso could have great possibilities in summer, but when I was there the weather was cold and grey and there didn't seem to be a lot of activity. The boys who were there seemed to be the same unappealing romanian boys who I saw in the Darling and Arkadia bars. No doubt MUCH cheaper than Roberto but they just didn't do it for me and I didn't even ask for rates.....A couple spoke quite good English but were so pushy - once I indicated I wasn't interested in "business", they worked on the "charity" angle !

For non-escort sex, I'd recommend Magnum sauna or Action bar...

I found out that there's no problem in taking people back to the 5 star hotels (certainly I had no problem) and probably some of the others too. Depends I guess on your budget (or expenses !)

I'd just like to add a line about the history and culture - lots to explore; and it really is worth trying to see a performance at the Opera House....the building itself is a "star" !

Hope this helps, feel free to ask anything else and I'll try to answer

Nicholas
