AOL....much for gays?

Is there much on AOL for gays? Each time I've tried to enter a chat room, I couldn't because the room was full. I'm about to cancel AOL and just use my local ISP but I wonder if I'm missing anything on AOL that I just don't know about.

AOL chat rooms are usually full unless its the wee hours of the morning. ;-) However I will let you in on a little secret that will help you get into your local m4m room after you find the chat room you want. Click on go chat or whatever it says when it say "room full" just hold down the enter key. This will allow you to try ever second or so to get into the room much more effective than click on/off TRUST me. Also I have meet an few decent guys from AOL chatting however the majority are less than what I desire :-(

AOL is a fairly good way to meet new escorts in your area ( if you are in a larger city.) The whole chat thing is worthless though. AOL chat rooms are a whole lot of bullshit! I keep it as a secondary account only. If you choose the "bring your own ISP" option it's only $9.95 per month. Worth the price of meeting a new escort every now and then.

The only gay-oriented content that AOL offers exclusively for members so far as I know is the chat rooms, and they are populated almost entirely by kids or pathetic losers. Many gay escorts have AOL accounts -- I suppose because AOL is to the Net as training wheels are to a bicycle -- and if you are a member you can read their member profiles and communicate with them by AOL Instant Messenger, if you consider that a useful thing to do. To the best of my knowledge none of the worthwhile gay-oriented websites is exclusive to AOL.

A couple of tips if you decide to stay with AOL:

 

1. Once you get into a chatroom you like, add a bookmark so that it's easier to go back there again. (I think this is called a "favorites" list on AOL 6.0.) As someone else mentioned, you can just hold down your enter key once you have highlighted the room you want and you will eventually get in. This does not work with a high speed connection, however (such as AOL's DSL service); if you try this trick with a high bandwith connection, you'll get an error message that you're attempting to change rooms too quickly and you'll have to log off and back on again to reset your connection. (At least, that's what happened to me when I tried it.)

 

2. You don't actually need to go into the chat rooms. You can just list them (on 6.0 under "people" select "find a chat" then select "member created rooms"). Once you find a room you are interested in, you can select "who's chatting" to see who is in the room. If you see someone you like, send an IM. Most of the rooms don't really have conversations going on in them anyway -- they're just places to see and be seen, as it were. If you're in an area with a large gay population, there will be a number of rooms for "m4m" for your area. And if you want to create a room of your own (such as "yourcitym4m6"), you can do so. If rooms 1-5 are already full, you'll probably soon have others joining you in room #6!

 

3. As someone else said, there are many escorts on AOL. You can either search the entire database or narrow your search to who is online. For example, you can do an "advanced search" for all male escorts online in Tampa. While many escorts seem to just remain online as a way to advertise and aren't available for IM's, many others are available for an introductory chat and then a booking, if you're so inclined.

 

I will add this cautionary statement about AOL: I have run across a number of flakey guys who either were escorts and acted very strangely or who weren't actually escorts and were just online to play games with people. Unless you can verify an escort by also looking at a site such as this (and the guy's contact info matches what you see here), proceed with caution. A few times I've been stood up by alleged AOL escorts whose profiles disappeared the following day.

Some more AOL tips:

 

1. The city M4M rooms (e.g. ChicagoM4M) generally have 'out' gay men who are looking for quick hookups.

 

2. Closet cases hang out in the BiJockM4M room and similar - CollegeJockM4M, MilitaryM4M, etc. Lots of trading of (usually phony) nude gifs here. Occassional requests for cyber or phone. Lots of confused 25 year olds who don't want to have to give up their str8 friends and str8 lives because they want to fuck other guys.

 

3. As previously stated, many gifs that are traded are fakes. Easy to get them from all the nude Amatuer web sites and Yahoo groups.

 

4. Some legit escorts on AOL (ALWAYS cross-refernce with this site.) But lots of young guys who have seen escort adverts on AOL and decided that it could be a cool way to make some extra money. A lot of these guys want to see YOUR picture before they send you theirs, and think that escorting is about getting blown by hot 35 year old married guys who look like Tom Cruise.

 

5. Fun thing to do with aforementioned guys: Once you've determined the guy is not serious about escorting or, since you won't send him your picture, is telling you he'll only touch you with rubber gloves, sign on with a different screen name and tell him you look like Tom Cruise. Send him a pic of some hot guy who looks like Tom Cruise. Watch how his description of what he'll do changes from "massage with release" to "I love to eat ass and get fucked."

 

6. You will be somewhat shocked by the large number of married guys or guys in committed str8 relationships or guys who claim to have had just one or two drunked tumbles with str8 buddies that you'll find on AOL. My guess is that the complete anonymity gives them the opportunity to safely explore something they'd otherwise be unable to. Unfortunately, many of these guys take advantage of the fact that you can delete and restore AOL screen identities at will.

 

7. Finally, you can use the ability to change identities to act out some fantasies of your own. Want to be an 18 year old high school football player looking for a blowjob? A drag queen? A leatherman? You can be whatever you want on AOL.
