I'll go first. My first Escort was born in 1978 (would be 23 now). Was hardly beautiful, not too comfortable, the suspension sucked and the manual gear was not smooth. Yet my first Ford Escort was more reliable and had fewer major problems than a couple of fancier cars I owned later.

 

After I sold it I had no Escort experience for the next 20 years. Then this year I had two, but this time they were rented, not owned. One was light rosy-beige, the other one was dark chocolate brown. For whatever funny reason, their respective color code was "white" and "black". Both were much more beautiful, both had a wonderful grip to the gearshift an both can give you a real neat ride. At least one of them is turbo charged and has a silky upholstery.

Although I've never owned an Escort, I did rent one once. I visiting the west coast and feeling restless. I needed to get out and about so an Escort seemed practical. It was a pretty basic model, not too flashy, blended in well, don't recall the color. In hindsight, I think I would have enjoyed the manual more as the Automatic failed to excite me. But my biggest complaint was this compact model had trouble accommodating my size. I was all out of free upgrades. Any by the way. . . a big time clockwatcher!!!!! Tried to charge me an extra hour when I went a few minutes beyond our contracted 24 hours.

 

My first and only experience with an Escort. Let's also hear about Ram's and I've heard there's also a Marquis running around out there. That would be a story!

What a pity you look at your escort's performance based on body color. We all know that German gearshifts are very durable, but so are the Japanese. Did you know that they also make Escorts in Mexico. So have you tried Germans, Japanese and Mexicans? They could give you a ride to heaven too.
