In the midst of all the hateful images we've seen and are likely to be exposed to in the coming weeks and months, some occasional mindless diversion will be necessary to retain sanity.

Belatedly, I've learned that a dubbed Spanish version of "Uga-Uga" is playing five nights a week on your local Telemundo station. (In San Francisco it's on at 9:00 p.m.) "Uga-Uga" is an especially silly and mindless Brazilian soap opera that was playing there to wild success last year. The key attraction, as far as I could tell, is that it features some of the hottest, most gorgeous guys in the Southern Hemisphere in an almost constant state of undress. You won't need to understand Spanish (or Portuguese) to drool over these guys! And there's something for just about everyone in the cast, from twinks to studs. If you need a break from all the bad stuff, "Uga-Uga" is a great stress-buster!

BTW, also keep an eye out on Univisión and Telemundo for the annual "Miss Venezuela" and "Miss Colombia" contests. Not only will you pick up endless fashion and make-up ideas from these super-productions, the hunky chorus boys are also very easy on the eye. I suspect some may be Kristen Bjorn alumni. I don't know if they're still doing it, but there was briefly a Mr. Venezuela contest that was pretty heart-stopping. The winner the year I saw it was a suburban Caracas cop who filled out his speedo and his uniform superbly! :-) If you happen to run across it, don't miss it!!!

Thanks for the heads up, Tri. Will notify all my friends here in the city with TVs. I don't. Oh well...

Thanx Tri. I just did a search on cable and Uga Uga is on tonight. I've set a reminder. Eye candy would be a wonderful diversion right now. :-)

Last year there was a Mr. Venezuela contest on tv. I understand they held one again this year, with many more contestants, but I haven't noticed it being aired.

Venezuelan guys know how to take care of themselves!

Well, I just spent a brainless hour with Uga-Uga. I forgot what a gallery of hunks they have in the cast! Did anyone else watch? Any critical reviews? Unfortunately, I never figured out which actor plays which character (except for Humberto Martins, who plays the hunky older brother of the shirtless hairy one) but tonight Shirtless Hairy One must have spent a good half hour showing his all. . . Then there's the blond godling raised by the Indians. . .

BTW, there's another Brazilian soap following, this one an historical costume drama. Probably not everyone's cup of tea, but for anyone curious about the Brazilian soap opera, it's a good example of the period genre.
