Dead Can Dance were Brendan Perry and Lisa Gerrard. Unfortunately, the DCD is no longer...they disbanded a couple of years ago. Lisa has released several solo albums and has participated in many projects such as the soundtrack to Gladiator. Brendan has one solo album "Eye of the Hunter", released in 1999. It is exquisite.

There is a DCD box set from 4AD scheduled for release later this year.

Brendan is English and, I believe, Lisa is Australian--if not Australian, she now lives there.

I KNOW I'll get attacked for this next line up, but....I HATE DANCE MUSIC. So, if you seek ANYTHING over bland thumping...here are my choices....

#1. CYNDI LAUPER * SHE'S SO UNUSUAL - A hugely under appreciated talent. A mid eighties mile stone. "Time After Time"...a true classic.

#2. STEVIE NICKS * BELLA DONNA - One of Rocks best voices, one of rocks best albums. Haunting, poetic, I love this woman.

#3. PRINCE * PURPLE RAIN - If you have to argue about THIS ONE...I dont get you at all.

#4. TOM PETTY & THE HEARTBREAKERS * GREATEST - Some of the best crafted songs EVER!!!!

#5. TINA TURNER * PRIVATE DANCER - An album thrown together in a month. This album, as well as the artist, is an icon.

#6. EURYTHMICS * GREATEST - Annie. Dave. THANK YOU!!!!!!!

#7. FLEETWOOD MAC * RUMORS - EVERYONE has owned this album at one time. The only bad thing is that Silver Springs was illiminated.

#8. MICHAEL JACKSON * THRILLER - Hes a freak, but "Human Nature"? The best!

#9. MADONNA * LIKE A PRAYER - Pre-electonica Madonna...when she was a slut. God that was great.

#10. HEART * GREATEST - Some schlock. Some rock. Some schlock rock. Ann Wilson beats Whitney Houston anytime!

EscortinSD:I agree with you reagrding Cyndi Lauper she is a true and original talent and "She's so Unusual"is one of the greatest debuts EVER

i am now going to say something which has got me into many arguments over the years but what the hell I DONT LIKE MADONNA IMHO she is an average talent at best and her true genuis lies in reinvention (hang on just putting on the flame proof suit :))

As a child of the 80's some more of favourites after a trawl thru my cds are

1.TALK TALK-FIRST 3 ALBUMS THE PARTYS OVER,ITS MY LIFE &THE COLOUR OF SPRING

2.BROOOOCE SPRINGSTEEN-BORN IN THE USA

3.DEF LEPPARD-FROM HYSTERIA ONWARDS...(MY GUILTY SECRET..SORRY)

4.SHAMEN-BOSS DRUM (EBENEZER GOODE..A CLASSIC DANCE CHOON)

5.FLEETWOOD MAC-TANGO IN THE NIGHT

I must be the only person who has never owned a copy of Rumours

Cheers Andy :)

p.s isnt silver springs sampled by destinys child in bootylicious

i've seen stevie nicks at the beginning of the video.

The sample in bootylicios is from "just like a one winged dove" Stevie Nicks.

I agree about Prince, he should have been included in my list, though Purple Rain isn't my fave, Sign of the Times is. He is a completely misunderstood genius, in my opnion, and god knows I have one on everything.: )

You will get no arguments from me about your list escortinSD(in fact, I will back you up if anyone attempts to argue with you.) the only one I probably would not have on my list would be Prince's-Purple Rain. That first came out when I really started to get into music and I do not know if even after 18+ years if I have recovered from the overkill that album received (Isnt't it weird how we still call CD's albums) I personally think that 1999 or Sign of the TImes were better than that but that is just my own personnal opinion. Al of your other choices are definate favorites of mine.

I agree with you on Cyndi Lauper I loved her "shes so unusual" album and might I add the title is fitting of herself but I still loved her music. ;-)

I also must admit that I haven't cared for any of Madonnas music since her albums of the early 90's. Hell wonder if I really am GAY?? LOL

I still could kick myself in the ASS for not going to Tina Turners final concert tour when she was in my area. DAMNIT I'M STILL MAD AT MYSELF! :-(

I didn't like Madonna at all until about 4 years ago when someone played the "Bedtime Stories" album for me. I was impressed that Madonna had become a better singer (still nothing exceptional, mind you, but much better than on her first few albums). I also liked the fact that it was very funky sounding, not the generic dance sound I associated with her. After buying that album and listening to it a lot, I got into other Madonna albums. I now consider myself a fan and like many of the songs she has recorded over the years.

When Madonna and Cyndi were both emerging in the early 1980's, however, I was definitely into Cyndi and not Madonna. Her first album is still classic. Her next two were also good, though not as good. "Sisters of Avalon" was total garbage IMHO. While I liked the reggae-ish remake of "Girls Just Want To Have Fun", I'm still waiting for her to make another good album. I can, however, recommend the DVD of Cyndi's greatest hits, remixed in 5.1 surround and with funny bits of Cyndi chatting in between.

Erotica was the Madonna album that converted me. And in following that up with Bedtime Stories, I too went back and listened to the earlier stuff again, still found it to be drivel: ) yes great pop fluff, and there is absolutly nothing wrong with fluff, but not my cup of tea.

WOW i thought i would get a huge kicking for dissing Madonna but obviously all the fans are occupied elsewhere ,I agree with the others who say that Sign of the Times is the small purple ones best work although i have fond memories of Purple Rain,i was 14 when it came out and at school the lyrics to "Darling Nikki"used to excite all those nice straight boys whose dicks i used to suck at night :p

P.S Matt have you ever heard of a UK band called Portishead if so what did you think i would have thought it would be the sorta thing you would like.Cheers Andy

Portishead, definatly another of my faves. Should be the soundtrack to a film noir gangster flick.

that voice, those downtempo beats, the 'scratching' a complete mix of styles to create a style all there own. (Unfortunate attempts by other 'artists' to copy that style, failing miserably, Supreme Beings of Leisure, while some of it is ok, most is utter shit, Morcheeba, first album not bad, second bullocks)

There are a lot that I've accidently left out of my top 10, it's impossible to have a top 10, I have an incredible collection of music, aprox 3000 cds, around 300Lps (down from over a 1000 a few years back, but got tired of lugging them around everytime I moved) attempting to find ten artists out of these, impossible. the list would be endless.

Other notable exceptions... Pop Will Eat Itself, Jamiriquai (who actually performed the other day on Regis and kelly.... without a HAT!!) Ministry, Inxs, Manufacture, Redd Kross..... the list goes on and on.

Matt(oy vey, I spend way too much money on this )

Matt:

Your statement about having 3,000 cd's proves what I've been trying to tell my friends all along: I do NOT have "everything" already! Most of what you have mentioned is not in my collection; I haven't even heard of most of it. Yet I, too, have over 3,000 cd's. And yes I, too, spend way too much money on this habit.

I know what you mean ,i shudder to think how many cds/lps/and cd singles i have i've never counted but between us me and my BF's collection takes up one whole big room in my house with special shelving built top to bottom on each wall and its probably 95% full up,the room has been soundproofed so you can play it LOUD without pissing off the neighbours,I bought the new jamiroquai album "Funk odessey"a few days ago and it is excellent would loved to have seen JK without his hat,i take it he must have left his solid silver indian headress thingies back here,.It's nice to know i am not the only music mad person out there :) as i have been accused in the past of taking it a tad seriously Cheers Andy :)
