I talked to her and she said that since I have no priors, that it would be best to just plead "no contest" and pay the fine. The penalties for a 4th degree misdemeanor are up to 30 days jail time and/or up to $250 fine. I'm dropping the word "massage" from that particular ad and I'll be sure to steer clear of Reynoldsburg.

Thanks to all for your kind, supportive e-mails and posts.

It sucks to have to cave on something like this but often that is the best solution.

I'm glad that it appears to be over and painless.

Go fuck the brains out of a few of those lucky non-Reynoldsians and pay off the fine.

Do I understand correctly that a "no contest" plea can't be used against you in future criminal procedings?

You understand correctly.

"A Plea of No Contest is not an admission of guilt, but is an admission of the truth of the facts alleged in the Complaint. A No Contest Plea cannot be used against you in any subsequent Civil or Criminal Proceeding."

I plan on doing exactly that}(, as I have a few clients scheduled between now and Thursday next.

First, I think your situation sucks.

I'm visiting Columbus from out of town. I don't have a copy of The Other Paper, but I do have one of Alive. In there your ad is listed in the "Adult Entertainment" section and you say to check out your reviews--which are of course quite sexually explicit--on this site and give the URL. That could have complicated things had you tried to contest the charge, I would imagine.

While I think erotic massage and prostitution should be legal, with the way things are now, it seems to me you are asking for trouble, especially by advertising in print your reviews here at this site.

Good luck with everything!

Yes, it may have, IF they knew about this site. Nothing they said or did led me to believe that they knew of any other advertising other than The Other Paper.

I'm not all that concerned, because they need more than just reviews to bust me for prostitution. They could possibly use them as additional evidence, but they need to get me discussing sex/money in PERSON to make the arrest. That's why intially I thought, wait a minute, this can't be an arrest for prostitution. I knew they didn't have what was necessary. Obviously, not much was requred to get me on the "massage without a license" charge.

Thanks, it's greatly appreciated. My court date is next week.

Best of luck Jeff. Knock 'em dead. Wait a minute - that's probably not a good thing to say when you're dealing with the legal system. Break a leg or something.

Please let us know what happened afterwards.

Actually, when it comes to lawyers, I'd like to suggest:

Knock 'em off--DEAD! }(

Went to court today.

$75 fine + $55 court costs = $130

Justice served and the citizens of Reynoldsburg have been protected from the evils of someone performing massage without a license.

Thanks for all the advice and support!:-)

Glad everything came out okay. Really, with all the problems going on in the world today, you would think people would have something more to worry about than consensual sexual acts between adults.

Posted

Jeff,

Glad to hear that you paid for some judge's lunch.

PS: Do you know if it's legal in OH to record a phone conversation wihout the consent of both parties?

Just curious...

On Saturday 'COPS' show I saw in New Orleans where they were monitoring a hotel room where they were arresting BOTH the escort and the client when they observed what waas going on in the room!

Scary.

Whats even scarier, is that the New Orleans PD knows this wont hold up in court. What this means is that the entire set up was most likely done JUST for the show, which is REALLY fucked up given what is going on with our media.

Which hotel chain was it? Or did they blank it out?

Sorry to hear that they did that to you, Jeff. That stinks that they did that. Taxpayer money should go to pressing matters.

Perhaps it's just that they were running low on funds for the Reynolsburg Tomato Festival. It is, afterall, the birthplace of the tomato.
