Hey Dudes,

I know from what I've read that AOL is making life more difficult for escorts (and clients): I've sent several messages to escort friends during the past couple of weeks, and some messages have come back to me.

I wouldn't be so anxious, but most of my messages have been "Hey, Thanks" notes and I cannot get through. That ticks me off. And what the hell was the problem in the first place?

So, what's happening? Maybe some of you techies can fill me in. (I gave up on aol years ago!)

Guest regulation

What's up is that when you sign a membership agreement with AOL you promise to abide by their definition of what is and is not an appropriate use of their system. You agree that they have the right to restrict or even cancel your access if they find that you have been using the system in ways they deem inappropriate. One of the things they deem inappropriate, so it seems, is the use of their system to facilitate prostitution. If you don't like the terms of their agreement you don't need to sign up. In other words, it is exactly the same principle that the management of this website uses to censor the content of this message board. Anything unreasonable about that?

AOL is canceling or restricting the accounts of people who have "escort" in their screen names or profiles or are suspected of being escorts for some other reason. If you send email to someone whose account has been canceled you will get an error message back.
