d.anders Posted 16 hours ago Posted 16 hours ago I'm very surprised this film got financed. It's a very old-fashioned, kind of slow, 2-person drama/comedy, with Bonnie Hunt and a few other actors thrown in. It's a simple premise, a grieving widow is forced to plan her husband's funeral with her estranged gay son's gay assistant. Allison Janney plays the lead, and Andrew Rannells plays the assistant. Both actors deliver. The screenplay has the feel of a stage play. I have to say, I thought the writing and direction by Jim Rash were quite good. The acting is superb, especially from Janney. The story is unusual, nothing like I've ever seen before. It has a 90% on Rotten Tomatoes. Since the story centers around a mother and her distant gay son, it might have some resonance here. thomas 1
