The GAY thing.

There's a gay snowboarding Colorado event coming up in a couple of days, Outboard(.org). This weekend I scanned this site to find another escort who's outdoorsy and snowboards to see if he was going to attemd; I thought it might be fun to meet (and maybe board together and/or fuck).

Eventually, I contacted a gentleman I found who lives in one of the fly-over states. His website paints an outdoorsy, and slightly preppy, portrait of a man who just may be the love child of the president of a Sigma Chi chapter and Grizzly Adams.

It was 10 minutes after 11p his time and he did not seem upset with me for calling that late, and since it was going reasonably well, I asked if he knew about Outboard.

"Im aware of it".

Ok...."are you going?"

"I don't really do the 'GAY thing'."

SILENCE, and then a quick "bye bye".

What the fuck does that mean? The "Gay Thing". Do you put your penis inside other men? You do? Then guess what you do the 'gay thing'. Suprise.

Anyone body here find the out of hand dismissal of gay get-togethers (we've all run into people who do that, right?) as much as I do, or am I talking to myself?

There seems to be a critical part of speech omitted in the last paragraph. Since English was my worst subject in school, I can't tell you whether it's an adverb or an adjective, but it's definitely missing, and I'ld really be curious to learn Hagen's take on

^ men-who-dismiss-men-bonding-with-men-who-have-sex-with-men .

Now to speak to the general issue, which involves questions like:

^ Do I think I have something in common with other gay people

^ *just because* they're gay?

(I do ...)

^ What level of enthusiasm do I have for an event that it is

^ something I might do normally, but that is targeted

^ specifically toward gay people?

(sometimes a lot; and had quite a bit of fun - like performing in an all gay marching & concert band, being on a gay swim team ...)

^ What is my reaction to people who have disagree with me on

^ the first question and can't fathom the appeal of the second?

(I have to get along with them, and don't specifically want to anger them by discussing or (heaven forfend) advocating my position, but generally think they are short sighted and probably tend to vote republican, although there are even some republicans who would disagree, like the Log Cabin folks ...)

At the risk of sounding politically hyper correct and of seeming to engage in arm chair psychiatry, I could suggest that those-who-don't may have internalized society's general dislike of gay people, and are being selectively blind to their own opression.

Of course, I feed at the public trough, have a very safe job that allows me to be out at work, and one where there's a pretty wide wall between any legal activity I do on my own time and the perception of my competence as a technical professional.

If I sound like a bleeding heart liberal, it's because I AM!

Because I really didn't care if we had sex or not. I just enjoy meeting other escorts, especially if we have something ELSE in common; snowboarding for example. And if he was going to be there already, that'd make things even easier. Is that ok?

I think I combined two possible sentences. One would ask if anybody runs into these people very often because I sure do, the other if anyone else finds these dismissive personalities as annoying as I do.

Also, I think "out-of-hand" required dashes, AND somewhere in there I spelled a word with an M, but it needed an N. I'm sure there are many other grammatical screwups in addition to my habit of overusing big letters (Think CHRIS!).

I completely agree with your sentiment. "Why do gay people need parades?". "Why should I go to a gay Tennis tournament simply because I am gay and I play tennis? Like I have anything important in common with those tweakers."

Gay people get together for fellowship. If they fit into a subcategory within "being gay" like snowboarding, all the more reason to commune, or at least to understand why others who do "The gay thing" would like to play together.

Oh that's my fellow escort to a T. Dude, if you're reading this read and RE-read what Honcho wrote, and then dwell in it.

So did you get lucky? 8-)

I guess we need to define "lucky" - does it mean I managed to avoid (ahem) sex, or participate in sex? In this case, it was the first definition.

Sorry, no story. A.

I agree, Rod. I have been having some really nice online chats with Gino Mancuso recently, about the ups & downs of escorting,etc...it's always nice to be able to hang out with someone who has the same interests/career. I can't wait to meet him face-to-face (I'd love to meet you, too, Rod) (although in Gino's case, I think we'll be meeting dick-to-ass, first). I don't ski, but maybe you and I could, like, go to Madonna's summer concert (another big "gay get-together").

Miami Looker: what does your best friend do when those escorts make those proposals? He insists on paying them? I guess that's cool of him. As for me, I definitely love professional courtesies (hey, it's the main reason I became an escort!) ;-)

You guys don't have any choice. You've GOT to get together. The sexual tension between the two of you is obvious. I bet that it'll be one of the hottest fucks that either one of you have ever had!

...very subtle nuance...(about as subtle as a 2x4, if only I'd read it closely (or is that a 9x6 I should be referring to - that's probably much less subtle))...either way, obviously too subtle for me...oh well

He tells them $150 just like he would tell anyone else looking for sex. He doesn't pay them.

A question back to you: How do you determine to whom you extend a professional courtesy?

I was kidding.

I toss a coin.
