I enjoy food tours.  I've taken the West Village Food tour with Sidewalkfoodtours and a Chinatown Food Tour with foodsofny.  Both are fun.  You get to learn about the neighborhood history while you walk from each food vendor.  One location is a sit down snack and most of the locations you eat on the sidewalk.  It's enough food for lunch.

I've been in the food service industry for a long time, and I usually enjoy the messy, unstructured exploration of a city. However, about three years ago, while visiting Providence—home to Johnson & Wales (my alma mater)—I took a food tour and had an incredible experience. It introduced me to amazing spots that weren’t even on my radar.

Since I often travel solo, I find these tours to be a great balance of interaction with strangers while letting someone else handle the planning. I'll check out Secret Food Tours! 😁
