d.anders Posted February 26 Posted February 26 (edited) There's been a lot of buzz about this film, and I finally had the chance to see it last night. It has a 93% on Rotten Tomatoes. I did not know much about the film, and I'm not familiar with Sebastian Stan. I'm sure it's a work of genius, and I'm very surprised I made it through to the end. It's not a film for everyone, even though the themes are quite universal. I imagine it has something in common with The Substance. Actually, my brain hurt after watching it, and I had to go to YouTube for further enlightenment. A ton of analysis exists, and most of it is quite interesting, in an artsy movie sort of way. The film isn't really about sex, or sexy, but Sebastian Stan does full-frontal, in your face style. He's got a pretty uncut cock with low hanging balls. The scene is very peculiar, and it's not very realistic. One minute he's fucking. The next minute he's looking for his mask. Goes entirely flaccid. Then, within seconds, he's back to fucking while wearing his mask. It's not believable, but the scene is not about the sex. It's about her laughing at him during sex. My curiosity wants me to dig deeper and maybe watch it again, but it's not an easy film to watch. It's quite dark and painful. If anyone has seen it, I'm curious what you all think. + EVdude Posted February 26 Posted February 26 Wow… thanks for posting. I turned it off after about 20 minutes. Just couldn’t connect. Will revisit.
leeper Posted February 27 Posted February 27 I watched the movie on an a plane, unfortunately that part of the scene was apparently cut out. It's not a movie for everyone, although I did think it was interesting. I thought the stooped physical posture that Stan adopted for his character wasn't very kind to his physique.

d.anders Posted February 27 Author Posted February 27 (edited) Shout out to @Rod Hagen. It looks like I saw Stan in The Martian, I Tonya, Black Swan, and probably other stuff, but I never latched onto his name. I remember liking the actor who played Jeff Gillooly in I Tonya, and his name still didn't stick in my brain. I wanted to see Pam and Tommy, but never got around to it. I read he wore a prosthetic cock for that. 19 hours ago, EVdude said: I turned it off after about 20 minutes. Just couldn’t connect. That's my reaction to most movies or series. I'm lucky if I last 10 minutes. In NYC, we see things in public that most people never experience. I was curious about where this story was going, and what it was trying to say. 13 hours ago, leeper said: I watched the movie on an a plane Wow. But it was an important aspect of the character, and what he thought of himself in his deformed state. One reason why the nude scene wasn't sexy. When he put his mask back on, his old body came back. Even so, I loved the way his junk moved as he walked. I happen to love a cock when it's flaccid. And it's lit so well, something you don't see in film very often. Edited February 27 by d.anders
leeper Posted February 27 Posted February 27 Sebastian Stan has been a favorite of mine for a while. He was in a TV miniseries "Political Animals" where he played the gay son of a former first lady, now Secretary of State, played by Sigourney Weaver. He had an extended nude scene in the movie "Monday". He was also in the 2012 revival of the play "Picnic" on Broadway. thomas 1
+ ApexNomad Posted February 27 Posted February 27 I watched this last night and didn’t care for it, which is a shame because it was produced by Christine Vachon, whose past projects I’ve long admired and enjoyed. The first half is compelling, drawing me into Edward’s struggles and the societal challenges he faces. But as the film progresses, it veers into an odd mix of dark comedy and surrealism that feels disjointed rather than purposeful. The tonal shift is so abrupt that it undercuts the emotional investment built in the beginning, leaving me more puzzled than engaged. By the end, I found myself questioning not just the film’s intent but whether it even knew what it wanted to be. thomas 1
