Ali Gator Posted January 8 Posted January 8 Cher's memoir (part one) came out this past November, and has been sitting on the top of the NYT Best Seller's list for six weeks (take that, Barbra* !) Last night she was on Jimmy Kimmel, and she said that she decided to split her memoir (covering over six decades) into two parts, since a whole book would be too big to carry around, and no one would end up reading it (take that, Barbra*!). Her 'Part 2' will be out the end of this year (November, 2025) and pick up in the 80s when she became a movie actress (and resurrected her recording career). Part One was her early childhood, meeting Sonny, beginning their recording studio, and their TV success which made them celebrities. I read the book (about 400 pages) between Christmas - New Year's, and truly enjoyed it. I was hesitant at first, thinking it wouldn't reveal too much - just the same stuff she has said in interviews over the decades - but it was a nice surprise. (I do wish she really covered more stuff in detail, such as losing the role to Streisand in the 1976 movie 'A Star Is Born', and Neil Bogart trying to push Donna Summer into giving her the "Bad Girls" album when she arrived at Casablanca), alas she didn't.) I highly recommend. Last year I couldn't wait to crack open the Streisand memoir. I grew disappointed as the book went on (especially once she got to the 1990's and beyond) as I found it repetitious. I grew bored with it by the last few chapters, and still haven't finished it. Others found it wonderful and entertaining - go figure. (I've been a fan of Cher and Streisand for around the same length of time). *Barbra's book, released in November, 2023, is over 900 pages and peaked at #4 on the NYT Best Seller list - being kept out of the top spot by Britney Spears, Matthew Perry and Liz Cheney. It fell out of the Top 10 by mid-January. Many blame it was too much to read at once, and too cumbersome to carry around. Rod Hagen 1

Barbra’s memoir was overly curated, focusing on control and perfection, while Cher’s was raw, unapologetic, and full of vibrant anecdotes that captured her larger-than-life personality. Looking forward to part two. Rod Hagen 1
