New York Gentlemen who like watching naked men perform, but who may feel awkward the fifth time they trip over the folding chairs concealed in the darkness of the Gaiety's auditorium, now have three, more traditional, alternatives.

We're all, by now, familiar with the fun and frolic still playing off Broadway that might best be called "The Penis Monologues". I am of course talking about "Naked Boys Singing". A very fun show, even if they never get hard.

"The Full Monty" cheats-a bit using a trick of light. You don't so much see The Full Monty in the climax, so much as its shadow. Other than that, it's entertaining enough.

The largely nude show I would trip over a hundred folding chairs, and even larger pieces of furniture, to avoid seeing again is Edward Albee's "The Play About the Baby", wherein the cute "Boy" spends about 20% of the show naked as a jay; and he is cute, with a nice body. But the show is Quasi-intellectual garbage we've not seen the likes of since "Seascape" (however, great performances by the "Man" and the "Woman"-she was opposite Richard Burton in Equus LONG ago). Think "Copenhagen" but not nearly as compelling or cerebral, but with LOTS more nudity.

Currently, on and off Broadway it's the Penis, not the Play, that is The Thing.

Hey Rod!

Does this mean that you're in New York? If so, then you should try to get together with Rick Munroe. It's obvious that there's a great deal of sexual tension between you two and I think the two of you should finally get it over with. I bet that it will be one of the hottest fucks that either one of you will ever have!

Hey Justice,

I was there for a few days a couple of weeks ago with my monkey. We hit NYC for a long weekend every other month. It's the only way we are able to deal with Los Angeles. NYC recharges us.

Anyone ever have the Braised Beef cheaks at "Danube"? They are to die for.

Good for you! It's a VERY exciting place to live and work.

The last time that I was in LA was over ten years ago. Let's just leave it at that.

You'll definitely be recharged if you and Rick get together and get it over with! :) (Trust me. ;-) The sexual tension between you two is obvious. }>)

I've heard that from several people.

Hey Rod,

Inasmuch as I am pigging out on NY theatre these days, I'd say there are many good things going on for every taste!

How about then revival of CABARET : tremendous staging by recreating a club atmosphere in the theatre, complete with tables with low lamps, bar stools etc...

Then what of the exciting choreography of CHICAGO and FOSSE? Who cares what they are wearing... just seeing those contortions is enough.

Then again, if you were with me in the theatre... I'd prefer something more cerebral and staid (like PROOF - but then again didn't YOU recommend that to me??).

And there is always KISS ME KATE's revival... and it's close to Shakespeare...

ROD - PLEASE COME BACK TO NY AND RECHARGE YOUR CULTURAL BATTERIES (which are always high anyway).

Anything Bouley does has always been great. Love Danube. And I think Adriano has a point about Kate and brushing up.

Later.

PS. Heading out to go heli-skiing in Alberta.

LAST EDITED ON Mar-04-01 AT 03:24AM (EST)[p]Daniel has it all over that Jean Georges. Bouley Bakery is as regular a stop for me as John Vies (spelling) on sixth.

But what the HELL happend to the "Flower Drum" over by the UN? They had the best Shrimp that side of Jasmine's in Las Vegas, and they closed? That sucks.

Enjoy Aspen. I plan to take advantage of the dumping we'll be getting here.

It would be wonderful to see theater with you A46; perhaps we should have hit "O" when we were in LV. It really is a visual orgasm; stellar music as well. Although, prying my way into you was pretty cerebral. :-)

Have you seen "Proof" yet? AMAZING. "Hair is dead, it's made of dead cells it CAN'T be healthy". Wonderful

In 2000 nothing approached "Proof" for sophistication and intrigue. The best of 1999 was of course "Copenhagen" in LONDON, not New York. 2001 is looking pretty lean so far. And not a LeanDream either.

Take care of yourself sweetheart, and THANK YOU very very much for the nice Bday card. (and think about what I said, or don't).

Rod,

Nasty man telling people you "did it to me" in L.V.! I can hear you trying to imitate Angelica Houston's voice in PRIZZI'S HONOR right now!

As for "O" it's coming to NYC. Plan to see PROOF once I can get tickets... it's sold out most weekend evenings.

Ah - and i remember the shrimp at "Jasmine" - and have yet to find something comparable in the Big Apple.

I'm not ignoring your advice... but... well we'll have to talk sometime or maybe I'll write you a LONG note one day. :-)

PS - NO ONE has been where you went.
